Position Summary
The Car Max Paint Preparation Associate supports the paint preparation process for vehicles, ensuring high-quality paintwork and compliance with Car Max’s standards. This role works alongside experienced technicians in a climate‑controlled environment and may include additional duties such as Cosmetic Reconditioning Associate II and Flow Inventory Associate II responsibilities on an as‑needed basis.
Compensation$24.00/hr - $37.00/hr (Base pay range). The actual pay will be based on skills and experience.

Responsibilities- Complete body repairs, including masking, sanding, and grinding
- Apply primer
- Remove and replace parts
- Repair plastic and substrate damage
- Post‑paint refinish and defect correction
- Ensure all vehicles meet Car Max Paint Standards
- Maintain, repair, and clean special equipment
- Maintain workplace cleanliness and organization in accordance with Car Max 5S standards
- Provide outstanding customer service to internal and external customers
- Perform duties as assigned by Managers
- New Associate Orientation Training – Operations
- Accountable to Associate 1 Competency Model
- Kronos Training for Hourly Associates
- Meet Cosmetic Reconditioning Associate II and Flow Inventory Associate II Performance Standards
- Complete Cosmetic Reconditioning Associate II, Flow Inventory Associate II, and Senior Reconditioning Associate Workstation Certifications
- Read, interpret, and transcribe data to maintain accurate records
- Perform multiple duties in a high‑energy, fast‑paced environment
- Lift objects that weigh up to 50 lbs
- Speak and listen effectively in dealing with customers/associates, in person and over the phone
- Complete Car Max provided training in all functional areas of the inventory process for cross‑training and full coverage
- Indoor and outdoor environments may include noisy or inclement weather conditions
- Requires walking or standing for extended periods; variable schedules may include nights, weekends, holidays, and 12‑hour days
- Wears Car Max clothing (acquired through the company) at all times while working in the store
- Follows Car Max, OSHA, and EPA standards, including PPE and proper waste disposal
- Adheres to all Car Max policies including attendance, asset protection, integrity, and professional appearance standards
Car Max Associates receive paid vacation, medical and retirement plans, and car purchase discounts. Full‑time hourly associates may accrue up to 48 hours of sick time per year and between 80 and 200 hours of vacation time after a 90‑day waiting period, depending on years of service. Associates receive eight hours’ pay for each of six scheduled holidays per year plus one floating holiday, with holiday premium pay if worked on a holiday.
