Overview

EHS Assistant is responsible for performing thorough 10-step cleaning and servicing of assigned areas of the Hospital in an orderly, systematic fashion using pre-approved products, tools and procedures. Incumbent must perform tasks efficiently with cheerfulness and respect for patients, visitors and staff with a focus on patient/customer satisfaction. Tasks include patient rooms, patient care areas, departments, offices, nursing stations, utility rooms, kitchens, work rooms, dictation areas, lounges, and public areas such as waiting rooms, lobbies, restrooms, elevators, and corridors.

Supports and is responsible for incorporating the Frederick Health (FH) mission, vision, core values and customer service philosophy into job performance and adheres to the FH Compliance Program and Standards of Behavior.

Responsibilities
  • Perform 10-step cleaning process in all areas of assignment after training, maintaining attention to detail and completing Duty List
  • Conduct related services such as bed moves, cleaning of IV poles and pumps, cleaning of portable potties, stocking of supplies, etc.
  • Respond rapidly and with a sense of urgency to emergencies, special needs, stat discharge cleanings, spills, and similar tasks
  • Interact with employees, patients, families, visitors and customers in a verbal and cheerful manner
  • Read, write and communicate in English
Qualifications Required Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to report for assigned shift on time and complete tasks after training, with the ability to consistently complete full shift
  • Proficiency in performing 10-step cleaning process across all areas of assignment
  • Ability to perform bed moves, cleaning of IV poles and pumps, cleaning of portable potties, stocking of supplies
  • Ability to respond rapidly to emergencies and urgent cleaning needs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with staff, patients, and visitors
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate in English
Minimum Education , Training, and Experience Required
  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred
  • One to two years’ experience in housekeeping or service work, preferably in a healthcare facility
Working Conditions

Tasks are physical in nature; must be able to stand for full shifts and perform manual labor. Must be able to work with acidic, alkaline, and solvent chemicals using proper procedures and PPE.

  • Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Risk:
    Category A – WILL have exposure to blood or body fluids.
Physical Demands and Ergonomic Risk Factors

Medium-Heavy Work:
Lifting up to 75 pounds infrequently, carrying up to 35 pounds while walking. Pushing or pulling up to 115 pounds infrequently or greater than 115 pounds occasionally (no more than once per hour).

Ergonomic risks:
Repetition, Forceful Exertion, Awkward Posture, and Contact Stress described in text.

Reporting Relationship

Reports directly to an EHS Shift Supervisor. May report to EHS Lead Assistant in the absence of the Shift Supervisor. Receives guidance from EHS Lead Assistant, EHS Shift Supervisor, EHS Operations Manager, and/or EHS Director.

Compensation and Benefits

Pay is based on experience, skills and education. If part-time, salary will be pro-rated. Hourly range: $16.39-$19.54. Benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance after 30 days for eligible employees, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability, Paid Time Off, 403B with employer match, financial planning, educational assistance, and Employee Assistance Program.

For the job listing, Environmental Health Services is Part-time, 40 hours bi-weekly, Nights, with weekend and rotating holidays.
