Job Overview
Amazon Data Services is seeking a Data Center Engineering Technician to maintain mission‑critical infrastructure and ensure 99.999% uptime. The role will operate diesel generators, 3‑phase electrical systems, mechanical equipment, fire/life safety equipment, building automation, and general facilities equipment across one or more data center sites in the U.S. The Technician will work flexible shifts, including night shifts, weekends, and on‑call rotations.
Key Responsibilities- Daily building rounds to monitor and record information from electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment.
- Monitor Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Management System (EPMS).
- Troubleshoot facility and rack‑level events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA).
- Perform rack installs and decommissioning within internal SLA.
- Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment.
- Technical writing to support change‑management program.
- Manage daily work requests, execute projects from conception to completion.
- Provide on‑site support of contractors, sub‑contractors and vendors, ensuring compliance with practices, procedures, and local legislation.
- Work schedule may rotate up to 12‑hour shifts; some locations have on‑call rotations.
- Support additional data center locations as needed.
- Lifting up to 39 pounds independently; group lifts up to 40+ pounds.
- Balance and perform construction tasks while on a ladder.
- Walk, use fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, climb stairs, twist, bend, work above shoulders, grasp, carry, push, pull objects.
- Provide ear protection as required.
- Willingness to travel to or commute between data center locations as needed.
- Willingness to temporarily work at alternative sites during training periods or until assigned facility is operational.
- Travel frequency will vary by business needs.
- Ability to commute or travel over 50 miles as required.
- 2+ years of data center engineering experience.
- Industrial‑scale chiller plant operation.
- Associate or higher education in related field.
- 1+ year of electrical/mechanical/industrial water experience.
- 1+ year of experience with Microsoft Office products.
- Work flexible shifts including night shifts/weekends.
USA, MD, Frederick – 31.00 – 55.00 USD hourly.
Base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location. Amazon also offers comprehensive benefits including health insurance, 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
