We are currently seeking an Environmental Construction Specialist to work on Electric Utility Construction Projects. This is a field position, and candidates must have experience with environmental compliance in relation to land clearing and linear construction projects. What You Will Do

Responsibilities are organized by functional area.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Provides Environmental Compliance and construction oversight on transmission Site Development and Linear Transmission Line construction projects.
  • Provides Environmental Oversight and compliance/inspections associated with Transmission Capital Projects and the NPDES and SWPPP.
  • Ensure compliance with laws and regulations for wetland access, protected species, wood and debris disposal, site control and soil disturbance.
  • Ensure field operations comply with permits (e.g., road use, natural resource protection act, Corps of Engineers, etc.).
  • Document pre- and post-work field conditions to ensure sites are in compliance with permits and environmental regulations and identify mitigation or restoration needs.

Field Operations

  • Perform erosion and sediment, stormwater management and pollution prevention inspections for applicable construction projects.
  • Interpret complex plans and drawings.
  • Promote and maintain good public relations in daily duties.

Crew Oversight

  • Attend pre-construction, constructability, and status meetings as directed.
  • Manage and oversee site development crews and oversee BMP contractors to ensure measures are installed as per the approved plan.
  • Ensure wetlands and sensitive areas are identified and crews are aware before entering such areas.

Stakeholder & Public Relations

  • Monitor and report to Project Management on status of construction units and billing to date.
  • Communicate daily with the utility client, contractors, landowners, and the public.

Subject Matter Expert Consulting

  • Assist in developing recommendations on future Right-of-Way (R-O-W) maintenance requirements.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Drive a company vehicle safely to work locations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What You Need to Have
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Construction Management, Building Science, or related field.
  • 1-5 years’ experience in Site Development work, permitting utility construction.
  • Solid understanding of NPDES CGP SWPPP implementation and inspections.
  • Stormwater, Erosion, and Sedimentation Control Inspector certification (e.g., FSESCI) for Florida or equivalent.
  • Solid understanding of NPDES, CGP NCDEQ, and SWPPP implementation and inspections for applicable permits.
  • Completion of a recognized integrity/inspection program (e.g., CESSWI, CEPSCI) for NC/SC or IN as applicable.
  • Desire to work outdoors in varying weather and terrain.
  • Strong public relation skills and ability to interface with the public.
  • Willingness to work alone.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.

What Would Be Amazing to Have

  • Background in Electric Transmission Construction, Pipeline, or Utility field.
  • SWPPP knowledge and related book knowledge.
