POSITION
DESCRIPTION:
The Maintenance Technician supports the inspection, maintenance, and repair of HVAC systems and related building systems across district facilities. This position offers significant on-the-job training in advanced HVAC controls and Building Automation Systems (BAS). Candidates with strong mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn are encouraged to apply, even if they do not yet have extensive BAS or controls experience.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
* HVAC & BAS Support
* Inspect, troubleshoot, and maintain commercial HVAC systems, including air handling units, motors, condensers, evaporators, and cooling towers.
* Receive on-the-job training and manufacturer-provided instruction to learn BAS platforms (Niagara-5, Trane, Daikin, Mitsubishi, Carrier, etc.).
* Assist with monitoring, adjusting, and diagnosing HVAC and BAS performance both on-site and remotely.
* Work alongside vendors, contractors, IT, and facilities staff to support BAS communications, alarms, and system integration.
* Perform preventive maintenance such as filter changes, coil cleaning, belt replacement, and refrigerant checks.
* General Maintenance
* Perform skilled and semi-skilled maintenance including basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, and light construction tasks.
* Repair or replace doors, windows, ceiling tiles, locks, lighting fixtures, and plumbing fixtures.
* Assist with moving furniture, supplies, and materials between facilities.
* Additional Duties
* Maintain district vehicles, tools, and equipment.
* Follow safety procedures and housekeeping standards.
* Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Training and Experience
* High school diploma or GED required.
* Prior HVAC or building maintenance experience preferred, but not required.
* Candidates with related mechanical, electrical, or technical backgrounds will be considered and trained as needed.
* Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience will be considered.
* Valid Tennessee driver's license required.
* HVAC or BAS certifications are a plus, but not required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Mechanical aptitude and interest in HVAC systems and controls.
* Willingness and ability to learn BAS software, HVAC controls, and related technologies.
* Basic computer and smart-device proficiency.
* Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and lift moderate weight.
Working Conditions
* Indoor and outdoor work in varying temperatures.
* Occasional on-call availability for emergencies.
