Position: Registered Nurse (RN) Inpatient Rehab

REHAB NURSE RN - NIGHT SHIFT AVAILABLE ONLY

The rehabilitation staff nurse works in an inpatient setting in the Rehab unit of the facility.

General responsibilities of the rehabilitation staff nurse

  • Possesses specialized knowledge and clinical skills necessary to provide care for people with physical disability and chronic illness.
  • Coordinates educational activities and uses appropriate resources to develop and implement an individualized teaching and discharge plan with clients and their families.
  • Performs hands‑on nursing care by utilizing the nursing process to achieve quality outcomes for clients.
  • Provides direction and supervision of ancillary nursing personnel, demonstrates professional judgment, uses problem‑solving techniques and time‑management principles, and delegates appropriately.
  • Coordinates nursing care activities in collaboration with other members of the interdisciplinary rehabilitation team to facilitate achievement of overall goals.
  • Coordinates a holistic approach to meeting patient’s medical, vocational, educational, and environmental needs.
  • Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills to develop rapport with clients, families, and health team members and to ensure fulfillment of requirements for legal documentation and reimbursement.
  • Acts as a resource and follows a role model for nursing staff and students; participates in nursing committees and professional organizations that promote the improvement of nursing care and advancement of professional rehabilitation nursing.
  • Encourages others to become CRRN certified, obtain advanced degrees, participate on committees, and/or join professional organizations.
  • Facilitates community education regarding acceptance of people with disabilities.
  • Actively engages in legislative initiatives affecting rehabilitation nursing or their patients.
  • Applies nursing research to clinical practice and participates in nursing research studies.
Roles and functions of the rehabilitation staff nurse Teacher
  • Shares information about disease processes underlying disabilities and teaches nursing techniques to help clients and families develop self‑care skills necessary for wellness progression.
  • Prepares clients and families for future self‑management and decision‑making responsibilities by fostering independence and goal achievement.
  • Reinforces teaching by specialists and other disciplines, provides resource materials for clients’ changing needs, and continues patient education after discharge.
  • Provides in‑service education for healthcare team members and community about disability prevention.
Caregiver
  • Assesses the physical, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual dimensions of clients and families and their educational and discharge needs to formulate nursing diagnoses.
  • Plans nursing care acknowledging rehabilitation nursing is dynamic and supportive, evolving as nurse and client influence each other.
  • Implements a plan of care by providing direct or through ancillary personnel to maintain and restore function and prevent complications.
  • Evaluates nursing care and modifies the plan as needed to achieve measurable goals.
Collaborator
  • Develops goals with clients, families, and the rehab team that promote wellness, realistic outcomes, socialization, and maximal independence.
  • Participates in the interdisciplinary team process, offers input into decision making.
  • Intervenes with team members to ensure optimal recovery opportunities.
  • Collaborates to achieve cost‑effective care using appropriate clinical measures to address emergent physical, psychosocial, and spiritual issues.
Client advocate
  • Listens, reflects, and guides clients and families through grieving stages, instilling hope.
  • Advocates for policies and services that promote quality of life for people with disabilities and participates in activities to raise community awareness.
  • Contributes to a safe therapeutic environment supporting activities that facilitate functional recovery and prevent complications.
  • Intervenes on behalf of clients to ensure medical and non‑medical professionals maximize success when clients return to work or school.

Must have current RN license in good standing with State Board of Nursing.
