About the Account Team

Our Account Team serves as the hub of all of our work. They are the direct client contacts and the team’s overall responsibilities are primarily made up of developing effective strategies to help clients reach their goals, effective project management to ensure great execution, and building deep relationships with our accounts.

About the role

We are actively seeking an experienced Account Director who will play a pivotal role in managing and developing our agency accounts. This leadership position requires a strategic mindset, exceptional relationship‑building skills, and a deep understanding of industry and business dynamics. The successful candidate will be responsible for fostering strong client relationships, leading account development efforts, and ensuring the successful delivery of marketing initiatives.

As a key leader within our organization, the Account Director will possess a comprehensive understanding of client needs and objectives, guiding the 5by5 team in exceptional work delivery.

The Account Director will report directly to the Chief Relationship Officer (or VP Account Director) and oversee a team of Account Strategists (direct reports) and Project Managers (indirect reports). This role focuses on managing and elevating marketing initiatives for our clients, requiring a keen eye for growth opportunities within the account roster.

Key Skills and Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership: Be a great leader to your dedicated team of account strategists and project managers. Consistently coach them in their development to improve their skills.
  • Account Development: Consistently find ways to help our accounts meet their goals and in doing so, grow the revenue generated from your assigned roster.
  • Build Strong Relationships with Accounts: Build and nurture strong relationships with clients, ensuring their needs and expectations are exceeded.
  • Deep industry and Account Knowledge: Develop and maintain a deep expertise of knowledge about your assigned industry (healthcare, nonprofits, for profit for good, and education) and accounts. Account Directors should be the most knowledgeable people at the agency when it comes to understanding their accounts’ businesses.
  • Strategy and Execution Oversight: While the Account Director is rarely responsible for crafting strategies or project management, they must be adept at reviewing work for quality and high level problem solving to help accounts reach their goals.
  • Time Entry: Every 5by5 team member is required to hit monthly goals related to billable time entry.
Skills and Experience
  • Leadership

    Experience:

    Proven experience leading teams of people in their individual growth and collective improvement.
  • Account Growth

    Experience:

    Established experience in growing accounts within a marketing agency environment.
  • Marketing Strategy or Project Management Background: Candidates must have a strong background in either developing marketing plans (strategy) and/or exceptionally high level project management skills.
  • Proven Industry Expertise: Industry experience in one of 5by5’s key focus industries is critically important to this role.
  • Agency

    Experience:

    Previous experience in a leadership role within a marketing agency is highly advantageous.
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree, preferably in business, marketing, or communications.
  • Certifications: Marketing certifications are considered a plus.
