AboutThe Role
The Driver position within the manufacturing industry plays a critical role in ensuring the timely and safe transportation of materials, products, and equipment essential to production and distribution processes. This role will operate between plants transporting product, with local deliveries for finished products when on the road.
Responsibilities- Operate dump trucks and box trucks to transport raw materials, finished products, and equipment between manufacturing sites, warehouses, and customer locations.
- Adhere to all DOT regulations and company safety policies to ensure compliance and safe driving practices at all times.
- Perform proper lifting and loading/unloading techniques to handle materials safely and prevent damage or injury.
- Plan and follow efficient routes using maps and GPS technology to meet delivery schedules and optimize fuel consumption.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to identify and report any mechanical issues or safety concerns.
- Maintain accurate delivery logs and transportation records, and communicate effectively with dispatch and management teams.
- Assist with transportation management tasks as needed to support logistics coordination within the manufacturing environment.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and compliance with DOT regulations and safety standards.
- Proven experience in truck driving within a manufacturing or transportation setting.
- Ability to perform proper lifting techniques and safely handle heavy materials.
- Basic map reading and route planning skills.
- Previous experience driving in the manufacturing industry or similar industrial environments.
- Additional certifications related to safety or hazardous materials handling.
The required skills such as proper lifting techniques and truck driving are essential for safely handling and transporting materials, ensuring both personal safety and the integrity of the cargo. Knowledge of DOT regulations guides daily compliance with legal and safety standards, reducing risks and liabilities. Operating dump trucks and box trucks requires technical driving skills and familiarity with vehicle controls, which are applied continuously during deliveries.
Reading maps and planning routes are critical for efficient navigation and timely deliveries, directly impacting operational productivity. Preferred skills like transportation management and vehicle maintenance enhance the driver's ability to contribute to broader logistics coordination and vehicle reliability, supporting seamless manufacturing supply chain operations.
