The Department for Facilities Management, Division of Building Services (DBS) is responsible for preventive maintenance, general repairs, small to medium construction projects, snow removal, and other landscaping services, janitorial services, and many other essential day-to-day building functions.

Within DBS, a Facilities Maintenance Supervisor I provides direct supervision and leadership for the building support staff at one or more locations. They interact daily with tenants, visitors, contractors, tradesmen, and other staff while performing and coordinating services, housekeeping, and maintenance activities. Tact, diplomacy, and broad-based building systems knowledge are essential for success.

• Supervision

• Preventive maintenance and minor repairs
• Janitorial services
• Coordinating major repairs and/or projects
• Setups and moves
• Safety and emergency management

• Team leadership, supervision
• Janitorial or housekeeping services
• Construction and/or other related trades (electrical, plumbing, HVAC)
• Customer service
• Good written and verbal communication
• General computer literacy

EDUCATION: High school graduate.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR

SKILLS:

Three years of building maintenance, grounds maintenance, general trades, skilled trades, moving services or mechanical maintenance experience.

Substitute EDUCATION for

EXPERIENCE:

Formal training in one of the above or related fields will substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for

EDUCATION:

Experience in one of the above or related fields will substitute for the education on a year-for-year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE

Working Conditions
Will be on call 24 hours a day. Incumbents in this job title may be exposed to extreme temperatures which requires the following of safety procedures.

Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
