We would love to have you join our team at the Kentucky Department of Agriculture! Our department provides services and programs across the Commonwealth which benefit every Kentuckian each day.
This position is in our Office of State Veterinarian, Division of Regulatory Field Services, Inspection Staff Branch, Disease Surveillance and Control Section One. This position offers a flex schedule and a state vehicle. The position will work from a home workstation in one of the following counties:
Trigg, Calloway, Graves and Marshall.
- Performs Beginning Level Inspection and investigations relative to testing and disease monitoring of livestock at market facilities.
- Work with local veterinarians and producers on animal health issues.
- Records and facilitates identification of animals as required by Animal Disease Traceability Rule.
- Insure regulatory compliance for entry of animals at livestock events.
- Performs beginning level inspection duties of equine animals from foreign countries; involves identifying, quarantining, and inspecting animals upon arrival into Kentucky.
- Routine inspection of animals presented for entry at equine exhibitions, racetracks, and trail rides to ensure compliance with regulations and testing requirements.
- Complete stockyard and rendering inspections as well as animal identification traceability records; forward to the administrative staff within the State Veterinarian’s office in Frankfort.
- Complete and forward to supervisor, time sheets and activity reports.
- Other duties as assigned.
This position will cover Trigg, Calloway, Graves and Marshall counties.

Experience in agriculture, inspection, quality control, regulatory, chemical application or application or inspection of pesticides or restricted chemicals, or a related field will substitute for the education on a year-for-year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Working ConditionsTypical working conditions will require travel to such places as stockyards, farms, businesses, and amusement parks. Has close contact with livestock animals in such areas as stockyards, barns and/or barnyards.
Probationary PeriodThis job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
