BBYO Israeli Madrichim Trip Staff – Summer 2026

Role Details

Organization Summary

BBYO Passport is BBYO’s premiere summer travel department for Jewish teens in 9th‑12th grade from around the world. The Passport summer programs combine elements of active touring, community service, and meaningful Jewish experiences. Each summer BBYO sends hundreds of teens on trips to Israel, directed by a team of Passport Trip Staff with one Israeli Madrich or Madricha per bus.

Dates and Availability

Israel trips begin June 23rd and run through August 11th, 2026. Applicants must be available for a minimum of 2 weeks to staff a program and are required to attend a training in Israel on May 6th. Additional training may be planned in the spring. All training days are paid workdays.

Is Staffing a BBYO Passport Trip Right for Me?
  • Initial Adjustment:
    Group travel can produce anxiety for some teens and staff, especially those who require a longer period of acclimation to highly stimulating and fast‑paced environments.
  • Traveling:
    All trips travel to different cities and/or countries during the program. Turnover between locations may be under 24 hours.
  • Activity:
    The trip includes extended bus travel, excursions requiring long walks, and activities of varying physical demands. Staff are expected to participate in all activities unless extenuating circumstances exist.
  • Privacy:
    Passport staff share a room with another staff member during the program. Staff have their own bed and are in the company of teens and other staff in public areas. Overall privacy is limited.
  • Food & Dining:
    Food norms may differ from those O Passport will reasonably accommodate dietary needs where possible but may not always be able to provide identical options for all foods. When kosher meat is unavailable, all food served will be dairy and/or vegetarian.
  • Timeframe:
    Programs range from two to five weeks. Participants travel with up to four other buses, each bus having around four staff and roughly 45 teens. Days vary widely; many are long with early wake‑ups and late curfews.
  • Physical

    Job Requirements:

    Extended walking and standing, sometimes on uneven surfaces and in direct sun; lifting and moving supplies, luggage, and meal boxes on and off the bus; navigating locations without elevators or stairs.

All hires are seasonal employees.

Compensation

400 NIS per workday / 600 NIS for Shabbat.

Key Position Responsibilities (and are not limited to)

Israeli Programming

  • Serve as the Israeli educational representative, providing cultural, historical, and contemporary context throughout the program.
  • Share personal stories, customs, and life experiences from Israel to help teens build meaningful connections with Israeli society.
  • Infuse Israeli ruach (spirit) into the group experience by incorporating Hebrew language, Israeli music, cultural traditions, and more on the bus and during activities.
  • Use Hebrew language skills to assist in communicating with local staff and vendors, supporting teen needs related to dietary preferences, wellness, or illness.
  • Act as a resource on current events, offering insight into daily life and modern realities of Israel.
  • Enrich site visits with insider knowledge, unique perspectives, and authentic storytelling to deepen participants’ understanding of each location.

Teen Safety and Wellbeing

  • Execute the role as BBYO Passport Staff with the highest level of customer service and participant care, compassion, and empathy.
  • Contact participants prior to the program to build personal connections and answer questions.
  • Capture group photos, send them to BBYO staff, and prepare bi‑weekly updates for participant families.
  • Ensure participants follow program safety guidelines; act on any violations and elevate as necessary.
