• Performs general automotive mechanical repairs, preventive maintenance, basic diagnostics in a fleet maintenance garage setting.
• Assists higher level automotive mechanics for on-the-job training.
• Observes and advises shop supervisor of the quality of repairs being performed.
• Performs basic computer diagnostics on powertrain engine management systems.
• Conducts mechanical repairs or replacement of major component assemblies such as engines, transmissions, transfer cases and axle assemblies.
• Performs accurate troubleshooting and repair on automotive heating ventilation and air conditioning systems (HVAC).
• Performs preventive maintenance procedures including oil changes, fluid changes, vehicle inspections, tire rotations, tire mounting and balancing.
• Performs brake repairs and replacement.

• General automotive mechanical repair experience with ASE certifications.
• Must be a great problem solver.
• Good computer skills.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.

EDUCATION: High school graduate.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR

SKILLS:

Must have two years of automotive and/or equipment repair technical experience.

Substitute EDUCATION for

EXPERIENCE:

Vocational or technical school training in automotive/truck repair or a related area will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Incumbents in this job title work in a repair facility.

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
