Veterinary Technician - Part-time Urgent Care

Overview

Are you a night owl with a passion for veterinary care? Vet Urgency, a Blue Pearl Veterinary Partner, is seeking an experienced Part-Time Veterinary Technician for an evening and weekend schedule.

Schedule: Thursday + Friday 6pm-12am, Saturday 2pm-10pm

Pay: $23.21 - $34.51 / hour + competitive shift differentials

This pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool.

We offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends. Shift differentials are based on a 4-hour minimum. For example:

• Mon - Fri: 6pm to 8am = +$4.00/hr shift differential
• Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = +$4.00/hr shift differential
• Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = +$5.50/hr shift differential

Vet Urgency was founded to fill a void in the pet care options available to the community. A need existed for an after-hours and weekend option that serves as a middle ground between the services provided by primary care veterinarians and a full-scale emergency facility. Vet Urgency's goal is to compliment the services offered by community veterinarians by ensuring prompt and quality care for their patients when there is a need for immediate care and their offices are closed.

We believe that efficiently facilitating care at a convenient time for owners will prevent pets from developing more serious issues that may require advanced medical care.

Responsibilities

• As a Patient Care Technician, assist with physical exams on patients, prepare supplies for treatments and procedures, perform in-house lab work (Idexx and Heska), and monitor patients during sedated or anesthetic procedures.
• Provide good communication and compassion; assist with treatments, educate clients, field phone calls, and pitch in as needed.

As a Veterinary Technician, you will:

• Triage cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Assist the doctor with creating patient treatment plans and thoroughly explain to owners.
• Monitor hospitalized patients.
• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Assist with phlebotomy and intravenous catheters.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and assist with CPR.
• Mentor and train other co-workers.
• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.
