Job Description
Under the general administrative direction of the Senior Director of Inpatient Behavioral Services and clinical supervision of the Chief of Psychiatry, the APRN will function as an attending, providing psychiatric assessments, psychopharmacological interventions and treatment to inpatients across the lifespan ranging in age from older adolescents (17 on up) to the adult and geriatric population. The APRN will work collaboratively on a multidisciplinary team of clinicians which include LICSWS, RNs, MHCs, MDs and trainees to provide psychopharmacological consultation to individuals experiencing mental health issues on our inpatient units.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· To provide diagnosis, psychopharmacologic intervention and treatment to individuals suffering from a wide range of psychiatric disorders.
· Will be competent providing diagnostic formulations and consequent decision making in the management and treatment of complex psychiatric disorders with a goal of promoting overall health wellness.
· Provides health care in accordance with the standards of practice as outlined by the American Nurses Association.
· Will work collaboratively with the treatment team in establishing a treatment plan and subsequent intervention for the patient.
· Will work closely with the Associate Medical Director of Adult services in the coordination of care.
· Will ensure the timely submission of billing and other necessary documentation required by hospital policy, insurers, and The Joint Commission.
· Will participate in all weekly and monthly departmental meetings/education in an effort to ensure the seamless provision of care.
· Will work collaboratively with Directors/Managers within the various service lines to provide ongoing stabilization of the patient in the inpatient setting.
· Participates in treatment team meetings with multidisciplinary treatment team and oversees the updating of treatment plans weekly.
· Maintains communication and telephone contact with important referral sources such as psychiatric directors and medical directors for HMO’s, nursing homes, elder service centers, and higher volume physician referral sources.
· Consults as necessary to other hospital units.
· Additional duties as appropriate to program success, maintenance of clinical excellence and as assigned by the Associate Medical Director.

MSN degree with current Massachusetts license registration as RN PC or NP, graduate of approved Nurse Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist program with ANCC certification in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing, US DEA and Massachusetts Registration as Controlled Substances Practitioner, Schedules II-VI, and 3-5 years of experience required.
