Unit Secretary

Performs general clerical duties on a nursing unit by preparing, compiling, and maintaining records in a hospital nursing unit.

• Record, transmit or file written and verbal communications to, from, and within the nursing unit to staff, patients, and physicians.
• Transcribe physicians’ orders.
• Schedule and sign patients in and out for surgery, treatments, or tests as indicated.
• Order and store unit supplies.
• Make necessary phone calls for special orders for doctors, patients, or nurses.
• Maintain current and orderly chart files; assemble patients’ charts for transfers or discharges.
• Answer telephone or intercom; record and relay messages.
• Greet, direct, and instruct visitors as necessary.
• Assist physicians in locating patients’ charts and appropriate primary nurse.
• Prepare routine, confidential, and/or special reports, documents, and records; assist with patient care/quality assurance audits.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Familiarity with medical terminology and experience with the use of a computer.
• Preferred:
  Previous experience as a Unit Secretary.

$15.00 - $24.80 hourly.
