Summary
:
As an Examiner, you will conduct Compensation & Pension (C&P) Examinations for Veterans applying for disability compensation from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) related to their service‑connected injury claims. The role involves reviewing claims, performing focused assessments of claimed injuries, reviewing medical records, and rendering a medical opinion based on the record review and completed C&P exam. Charting from home may be required.
Each Examiner plays a vital role in the overall experience of the Veteran, and by providing an exceptional experience during these examinations we aim to positively impact each Veteran.
These Medical Disability Examinations are crucial in the VA’s process for determining benefits Veterans can receive. Our clinical insights facilitate access to treatment subspecialists and create continuity of care. Qualified candidates must hold an active license, work independently and collaboratively, demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, and adapt to changing situations. Basic computer skills are also required.
Pay
:
Base + Monthly Incentive = $ – $ annually.
- Conduct comprehensive medical disability examinations, including review of medical history, physical examination, and assessment of the impact of disabilities on daily life; 10% travel required.
- Review and analyze medical records, diagnostic test results, and other documentation to build a comprehensive understanding of the Veteran’s health condition.
- Render objective medical opinions based on examination findings and record review regarding the extent of health issues and impact on work and activities.
- Manage case‑management responsibilities: organize workload, submit findings, and correspond with the Quality Assurance Team.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals and specialists to obtain additional information and deepen evaluation.
- Document findings accurately in medical opinions and reports following VA guidelines and contractual obligations.
- Partner with Loyal Source departments to achieve task completion and deadlines.
- Manage time effectively, confirm availability, schedule C&P exams, and ensure timely submission.
- Ensure compliance with all laws, regulations, and standards related to disability examinations.
- Submit thorough and accurate examination findings in collaboration with the QA team.
- Maintain compliance with all VA training and program requirements.
- Safeguard confidentiality of patient information in accordance with privacy and security protocols (HIPAA).
- Complete the required HIPAA compliance assessment annually; failing to meet the minimum score may result in additional training, reassignment, or separation.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing school recognized by the U.S. Department of Education; valid, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in all 50 states, District of Columbia, and territories.
- At least 1 year of experience as a Nurse Practitioner.
- Preferred: prior experience in medical disability examinations or related field.
- Basic Life Support certification required (including renewals).
- Preferred: prior military experience or familiarity with veteran communities.
- Specialized training or continuing education in Medical Disability Evaluation, occupational health, or related areas advantageous.
- Proficiency in comprehensive medical assessments, diagnostic interpretations, and evidence‑based opinion formulation.
- Empathy and compassion toward patients, ensuring a respectful and patient‑centered evaluation.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills for objective conclusions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to present findings clearly to diverse audiences.
