Senior Distribution Engineer – Framingham, MA
Leidos is seeking a Senior Distribution Engineer in the Framingham, MA area who is passionate about electric utility design engineering. We’re looking for someone dedicated to ensuring that every project, no matter how simple or complex, is of exceptional quality. You'll be working directly with clients to maintain Leidos' reputation for high‑quality work. If you join us in this role, you'll gain expertise in NESC, structural pole modeling, electrical power calculations, GIS design training, field data collection, and client design standards.
This position is hybrid: 3 days per week in the office, 2 days per week remote.
Responsibilities- Lead the development of electrical distribution work packages; perform engineering design and analysis; potentially work on programmatic/capital/reliability design (e.g., 3rd‑party attachment, Make‑Ready, overloaded transformers, reconductor, voltage conversion, DG, FLISR, underground, etc.).
- Be responsible for QA/QC tasks on your assigned team; lead quality reviews of your team’s designs prior to client submittals.
- Review engineering design packages with clients; review and organize existing program work.
- Perform scope analysis of work assigned and maintain schedule adherence to advocate client priorities.
- Interact directly with clients on a frequent, as‑needed basis.
- Provide engineering support during construction, including post‑construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards have been met.
- Coordinate conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements; assist with work permit development, easements, and ROW applications.
- Be comfortable in both field and office settings; the role may require customer‑site visits to collect field data.

- 4+ years of relevant experience working electrical distribution projects in a consulting environment for electric utilities or directly at an electric utility.
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET‑accredited institution. Additional relevant experience may be considered in lieu of an engineering‑specific bachelor’s degree.
- Experience and demonstrated proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).
- Experience with engineering design quality control.
- Familiarity with pole‑loading software (O‑Calc, Pole Foreman, etc.) and distribution pole analysis.
- Ability to use a personal vehicle; some customer‑related travel may be anticipated (travel reimbursed at IRS‑approved rates).
- Willingness to perform both field and office work; ability to work in outdoor environments on occasion.
- Valid U.S. driver's license.
- Previous QA/QC experience.
- Experience providing estimated costs, developing a BOM, calculating the CIAC.
- Demonstrated history of customer interaction.
- Proven experience and proficiency with STORMS software and GIS is preferred.
- Prior leadership experience is preferred.
- Strong communication skills, both written and interpersonal, and a commitment to customer advocacy.
