Overview
The purpose of this position is to perform routine work in the vehicle transport of senior citizens and other Human Services clients to and from appointed destinations.
Responsibilities- Transports elderly and disabled citizens to and from various destinations, such as banks, shopping malls, pharmacies, medical offices, Post Office, etc.; assists passengers in getting in and out of vehicles by opening doors and providing physical assistance to those who request or need it within the standards of independence; acts as escort when needed at appointments; ensures that passengers safely enter their dwellings;
visits Foxborough residents at medical facilities. - Inspects vehicles daily and reports any malfunctions and/or damage to vehicles; reports needed repairs. Maintains cleanliness of vehicles at all times. Responsible for gas, oil change, and tire pressure.
- Completes daily log sheets. Communicates and coordinates any schedule changes with the supervisor. Must be aware of issues and concerns with clients.
- Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates. Attendance at the workplace is required.
- High School education; two years of experience operating a passenger van or in light truck delivery service preferred; driving experience in comparable weather conditions helpful; experience in working with elderly and disabled persons desirable; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license. Certification in CPR/AED/First Aid.
- Employee is regularly required to walk, stand, sit, speak and hear; uses hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls. Able to reach with hands and arms as in picking up paper, files and other common office objects. Employee may be required to stoop, bend and lift or move objects weighing up to 30 pounds. Vision and hearing at or correctable to normal ranges;
requires ability to read documents, use a computer, and operate a motor vehicle. - Work is performed in a vehicle on the road with exposure to all weather conditions and the general hazards associated with driving; work is subject to seasonal variations. Operates a lift-equipped van; operates standard office equipment and computer; utilizes vehicle cleaning equipment and hand tools. The employee has access to confidential information pertaining to clients. Makes frequent contact with elderly passengers and other Human Services clients as well as Council on Aging staff, medical and dental office personnel, the families of clients, and other town departments.
Works under the supervision of the Council on Aging and Human Services Director. Employee refers all questionable cases to supervisor.
