Firefighter​/Paramedic

Overview

Under the direction of the Lieutenant, firefighters perform public safety work involving the protection of life and property by fighting fires, responding to emergency incidents, using Emergency Medical Services (EMS) skills, and engaging in fire code enforcement, public education, and station and equipment maintenance activities. Performs duties, both in emergency and non-emergency situations, related to fire protection, hazardous materials response, and emergency management delivery.

Serves as the principal hands-on labor in providing fire department emergency and non-emergency services to the community.

• Knowledge of fire behavior, building construction, hazardous materials identification, town policies, department policies and departmental standard operating procedures, OEMS Protocols, and the Fire Code.

• Ability to act as an effective team member at all emergency incidents involving fire protection and emergency medical functions.
• Ability to communicate and effectively deal with the general public.
• Ability to perform effectively under stressful and adverse conditions.

• Skills in fire fighting, rescue techniques, hazardous materials awareness, and emergency medical functions.
• Skills in performing search and rescue, forcible entry, ventilation, salvage, overhaul, and support functions at firefighting incidents.
• Skills in performing support functions for all emergency service delivery areas.
