The Village of Fox Lake (population 10,978) is located 55 miles northwest of downtown Chicago and 20 miles west of Waukegan, Illinois. Fox Lake is located in Lake and McHenry counties. The Village is located on the South Shore of Pistakee Lake, Nippersink Lake, and Fox Lake, three connected water bodies that form part of the Chain O’Lakes system. The Village of Fox Lake has a total area of 9.942 square miles of which around 20% is water.

The Village of Fox Lake is seeking seasonal summer staff to assist the Public Works Department. This entry-level position provides hands-on experience across multiple areas of Public Works, primarily within the Streets Maintenance Division and, on occasion, in conjunction with the Parks and Building Maintenance Division.

Primary duties include landscaping, lawn and grounds maintenance, general street maintenance, trash collection, beach and playground maintenance, painting, cleaning, and assisting with special events and departmental programs. This position reports to and works under the general direction of the Streets Maintenance Supervisor.

• Record basic information related to daily assignments and work performed.
• Operate vehicles and equipment as directed and in accordance with training and safety procedures.
• Perform tasks safely and conscientiously to ensure personal safety and the safety of others.
• Assist with special projects or assignments as directed by the Streets Maintenance Supervisor.
• Perform routine maintenance tasks with minimal supervision.
• Carry out work assignments as required or directed.
• Perform related work as required.

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
• Valid State Driver’s License required.
• Ability to utilize hand and power tools.
• Ability to operate light vehicles and mechanical equipment such as lawn mowers and landscaping equipment.
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently with general supervision.
• Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
• Successful completion of a pre-employment physical examination and drug/alcohol screen following a conditional offer of employment.

This is a seasonal, full-time position requiring regular and reliable attendance during assigned work hours (40-hour work week). Work is performed primarily outdoors and may involve exposure to extreme weather conditions, loud noise, and physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50–75 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
