The Village of Fox Lake (population 10,978) is located 55 miles northwest of downtown Chicago and 20 miles west of Waukegan, Illinois. Fox Lake is located in Lake and McHenry counties. The Village is located on the South Shore of Pistakee Lake, Nippersink Lake, and Fox Lake, three connected water bodies that form part of the Chain O’Lakes system. The Village of Fox Lake has a total area of 9.942 square miles of which around 20% is water.

The Village offers a vibrant lakeside community with thriving local businesses, recreational amenities, and a focus on sustainable growth.

The Village of Fox Lake is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Community & Economic Development Director. This position directs the day-to-day operations of Community Development in conjunction with the Building Commissioner and oversees all aspects of Economic Development and Tourism on behalf of the Village.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Urban or Regional Planning, Public Administration, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (Master’s or AICP Certification preferred).
• 5–7 years of progressively responsible experience with management or supervisory responsibilities in a municipal organization or related environment.
• Valid Class D Driver’s License required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Strong leadership, strategic planning, budgeting, grant management, and public communication skills.
• Ability to establish professional relationships with staff, officials, contractors, and the public.

• Shape economic growth in a dynamic lakeside community.
• Lead high-impact projects affecting residents, businesses, and tourism.
• Work in a collaborative, supportive environment with engaged stakeholders.
