Background The Village of Fox Lake (population 10,978) is located 55 miles northwest of downtown Chicago and 20 miles west of Waukegan, Illinois. Fox Lake is located in Lake and McHenry counties. The Village is located on the South Shore of Pistakee Lake, Nippersink Lake, and Fox Lake, three connected water bodies that form part of the Chain O’Lakes system. The Village of Fox Lake has a total area of 9.942 square miles of which around 20% is water.

The Village offers a vibrant lakeside community with thriving local businesses, recreational amenities, and a focus on sustainable growth.

The Village of Fox Lake is seeking three (3) Part-Time Parks Attendants in our Parks & Recreation Department to maintain a safe, welcoming, and orderly environment at Lakefront Park and other Village properties. This highly visible role focuses on community engagement, park monitoring, and public interaction.

Duties And Responsibilities

The essential functions listed below are intended to illustrate the type of work performed. Omission of specific duties does not exclude them if work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.

• Conduct scheduled park rounds to ensure visitor safety and property security.
• Engage proactively with park visitors to encourage compliance with rules and ordinances.
• Serve as a first point of contact for questions, concerns, and minor conflicts.
• Perform routine facility checks, including opening/closing procedures and general upkeep.
• Assist with light grounds and building maintenance.
• Support Village special events and programs, including setup, crowd direction, and signage.
• Document incidents, maintenance issues, and observations in timely reports.
• Communicate daily with Village staff to ensure seamless operations.
• Respond to emergencies appropriately and notify supervisors.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Valid State Driver’s License required.
• Prior experience in customer service, parks maintenance, security, or public safety preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and handle physical demands (lifting up to 50–75 lbs, walking, standing, climbing, bending).
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

SCHEDULE

• Monday–Thursday:
  One Attendant, 3pm–9pm
• Friday:
  Two Attendants, 2pm–10pm
• Saturday–Sunday:
  Two shifts, AM 8am–3pm, PM 2pm–9pm
• Required attendance for all Attendants:
  Saturday, June 27, and Saturday, August 28
• Up to 30 additional hours available with Supervisor approval for special events
• Seasonal, approximately 54 hours/week over 17 weeks
