Job Description
American Traveler is seeking a travel RN for a Labor & Delivery position at an academic medical center in Fountain Valley, CA, requiring at least 2 years of L&D experience, Epic proficiency, and an active CA RN license in hand.
Responsibilities- Labor & Delivery unit at a community-level hospital facility performing approximately 100–200 births per month
- Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts per week, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM, Sunday through Saturday
- 13-week contract
- Patient population includes low-risk, high-risk antepartum, triage, and postpartum care
- Clinical scope includes antepartum care, fetal monitoring (external and internal), C-section circulation/scrubbing/recovery, vaginal deliveries, neonatal resuscitation, and postpartum management
- Charting system:
Epic (experience required) - Responsibilities include triage of obstetric patients, EFM, IV therapy/phlebotomy, magnesium sulfate and Pitocin administration, hemorrhage management, neonatal resuscitation, and discharge teaching to patients and families
- Must pass an EKG exam (up to 3 attempts)
- No RTO permitted within the first two weeks of assignment; a maximum of 7 days of RTO per 13-week contract is highly preferred
- All RTO requests must be submitted at time of application and cannot be modified after profile submission
- Local candidates are accepted at the same rate
- Candidates who have previously worked at this health system must have been away for a minimum of 1 year before returning as a traveler
- The hiring manager may or may not conduct an interview; candidates must be comfortable proceeding without one
- Orientation includes required online modules (approximately 4–8 hours), which are self-reported
- No blocked or self-scheduling permitted
- Active CA RN license currently in hand (EMSA not accepted)
- Current certifications required and in hand: BLS, ACLS, NRP, and AWHONN Advanced
- Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery RN experience required
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Epic EMR experience required, must be reflected in work history
- Two supervisory references required — at least one from a supervisor/director/manager within the past year from an L&D unit; the second reference may be from a charge nurse, co-worker, or educator within the past 2 years
