Position Summary

Responsibilities
The Surgical Technologist III is responsible for providing surgical assistance in a safe, appropriate and effective manner under the direction of a Registered Nurse/MD, in compliance with the Surgical Technologist standards of practice.Maintain availability/maintenance of instruments and adherence to aseptic technique; possess advanced knowledge of surgical procedures and support patient flow within the department.Provide support and communicate directly with the surgical team and supervisory staff; use effective oral communication and participate in documentation.Collaborate with other professional disciplines to ensure safe and effective patient care delivery and desired patient outcomes.Demonstrate the ability to safely and competently perform all aspects of surgical techniques/procedures including cardiovascular procedures.Demonstrate ability to provide care in emergency situations and contribute to an effective and safe working environment.Serve as a role model and assist new staff members; serve as a preceptor for new employees/students in the scrub role.Demonstrate knowledge of patient privacy rights and maintain confidentiality of all medical, financial, and sensitive information.Demonstrate good customer service skills by managing patient, family, and significant other expectations.Demonstrate tact, sensitivity, discretion, and the ability to integrate knowledge of job-specific competencies.Continual development of clinical expertise and current knowledge of healthcare trends related to performance.Fulfill cardiovascular on-call requirements and maintain reliability in attendance and punctuality.Follow company policies, procedures, and directives; interact positively and constructively with team members.Support departmental magnet preparation and participate in department performance improvement activities.Assist surgeons with invasive and non-invasive surgical procedures and provide patient care under RN/Physician direction.Perform all aspects of surgical techniques/procedures including cardiovascular procedures and apply asepsis principles to provide quality patient care.Possess knowledge and skills of operating room competencies and safely use equipment/supplies.Other duties as assigned.Specific job-related responsibilities and duties
Assists with unit preparation for magnet.Meets population-specific competencies.Participates in department performance improvement.Assists the surgeons with performing invasive and non-invasive surgical procedures.Provides patient care to patients undergoing surgical procedures under the direction of an RN/Physician.Performs all aspects of surgical techniques/procedures including cardiovascular procedures.Applies the principle of asepsis in a knowledgeable manner to provide quality patient care.Possesses knowledge/skills in all surgical procedures and demonstrates ability to safely and completely use equipment/supplies in the performance of the assignment.Possesses knowledge and skills of job-specific competencies in the operating room.Other duties as assigned.Minimum Requirements
Experience
- Minimum of two (2) years surgical technologist experience required
- Completion of Surgical Technologist program required
- Computer, internet, order entry and word processing experience preferred
- Proficient in medical terminology
Education
- Current American Heart Association Basic Cardiac Life Support Card required
- American Surgical Technologists (AST) certification required
