About Coastline College
Coastline College, a community college located just outside of Los Angeles in Orange County, California, has been an innovative leader in traditional and non‑traditional delivery of education since 1976. The college’s campuses are in Westminster, Garden Grove and Newport Beach, and it is part of the Coast Community College District. StudentAssistant Levels and Duties
- Student Assistant I – Entry level/Semi‑skilled
Under immediate supervision. Tasks are routine and repetitive, using standard equipment and software. The supervisor assigns work, sets workload and provides detailed instructions.
- Student Assistant II – Intermediate/Advanced
Under general supervision. Assignments are less routine, involve moderate responsibility, and may require access to sophisticated data systems. Requires a minimum of one year’s experience in a similar assistant role.
- Student Assistant III – Specialist/Lead
Under general supervision with broad responsibilities. Requires independent judgment, decision‑making and the ability to direct lower‑level assistants. Requires a minimum of two years’ experience in a similar assistant role.
- Education and Experience
- Student Assistant I – Little or no prior experience or education required.
- Student Assistant II – Some prior knowledge, experience, or education required.
- Student Assistant III – Prior experience, education or specialized skills required.
- Other Qualifications
- Student must be enrolled in at least six units for the current semester.
- Student must have a Federal Work‑Study award via the Financial Aid Office.
- Student must meet satisfactory academic progress (SAP).
- Student must demonstrate financial need as calculated by the Financial Aid Office.
- Students must balance work and studies and may require reasonable accommodations.
- Physical demands are representative of those required for the role; accommodations may be made for qualified applicants with disabilities.
- Non‑academic, non‑classified Student Assistants are at‑will employees with no entitlement rights or benefits.
- Student Assistants may not exceed 19.5 working hours per week during fall and spring semesters and 28 hours per week outside those semesters.
- Student Assistants cannot be employed elsewhere in the District during the same fiscal year (July 1 – June 30).
- Regular attendance is an essential job function.
