THE POSITION

Coastline College is seeking a full‑time, equity‑minded, tenure‑track faculty member in Cybersecurity, commencing with the Fall 2026 semester. The primary teaching assignment involves all areas of Cybersecurity, including applied learning techniques related to incident response, AI‑tool integration, cloud security, penetration testing, digital forensics, computer networking, and more. This assignment also includes curriculum and program development; participation in department, division, and college committees;

participatory governance activities assuming leadership roles both within the department and in the institution as a whole; collaboration across disciplines; the leveraging of student support resources; and participation in ongoing professional development.

The assignment may be day, evening, weekend, online, hybrid, or off‑campus and is subject to change as needed. The ideal candidate embraces the overall mission of Coastline College and the Coast Community College District, with a clear, focused commitment to offer inspiration, innovation, and meaningful learning experiences to its diverse and changing community and prepares students to achieve success in post‑secondary, career and technical, and lifelong educational opportunities.

THE COLLEGE

Coastline College serves a diverse student population of approximately 19,361 students across multiple instructional modalities, including online and in‑person formats. In the 2024–25 academic year, the College awarded 1,225 degrees and 610 certificates while achieving strong end‑of‑term retention and course success rates.

The College’s student body reflects the dynamic racial and ethnic diversity of the region. Of enrolled students, 28.9% identify as Hispanic Latinx, 23.0% as Asian, 7.7% as Black African American, 25.3% as White, 4.2% as Two or More Races, 0.5% as American Indian Alaska Native, and 0.5% as Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander. An additional 1.5% identify as Filipino, while 25.3% of students are reported as unknown or unreported.

THE DEPARTMENT

The Computer and Cyber Sciences Department encompasses multiple disciplines such as Cybersecurity, Computer Information Systems, Information and Computer Sciences, Information Technology, and Artificial Intelligence, all sharing Coastline College’s commitment to equitable outcomes; inclusive practices; and racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic diversity.

Coastline College has been designated as a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE‑CD) by the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security since 2014 and holds the Validated Cyber

AI Program of Study. Coastline’s Cybersecurity Department serves students seeking to re‑skill for new job opportunities in cybersecurity, upskill for a promotion or career change, and transfer to 4‑year institutions. Innovative teaching is encouraged as well as student and faculty engagement outside of the classroom.

Faculty opportunities in the Career Education Division include leading and supporting grant‑funded initiatives with national, state, and regional impact. Coastline’s Cyber Center is seeking faculty support in the development of new and innovative outreach strategies to help students along their cybersecurity education and career journey. The Department promotes faculty work on student research and projects, community engagement, and partnerships with local institutions to promote STEM engagement for racially minoritized populations.
