Department Supervisor

Monday‑Thursday 5 am – 3 pm with overtime potential. This position will run one or more machine(s) in addition to overseeing 6+ team members.

Compensation range: $28 – $30 hourly

What you will be doing

  • Interview candidates and make hiring decisions
  • Run machines in various departments
  • Monitor production activity, identify process problems, troubleshoot causes and develop solutions
  • Supervise the daily activities of staff and the production area to ensure volume, cost, waste, and quality standards are achieved
  • Coordinate work schedules, staffing requirements, and production sequences to maximize productivity
  • Suggest improvements to improve efficiencies and safety
  • Deliver or coordinate staff training and onboard new staff
  • Ensure all safety training is completed, and that policies and processes are followed
  • Follow all safety procedures and wear required PPE
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
Machine Operations
  • Set up machines and change tooling or saw blades to grind/cut steel
  • Use specialized saws or hand tools
  • Use calipers and micrometers; understand fractions and decimals
  • Read industrial knife blueprints
  • Perform quality checks
  • Complete Statistical Process Control Charts (SPCs) for all assignments
  • Be forklift certified (or able to become certified)
  • Load and unload steel from machines
  • Add coolant and empty swarf
  • Perform general cleaning of machines and area
  • Work with a high sense of urgency
  • Wear all required PPE
  • Actively participate in Lean and Safety Training
What we are looking for
  • Minimum of 2 years leadership experience
  • Minimum 2 years manufacturing experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Proficiency with UKG Recruiting and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Teams) and ERP experience (D365) – or quick technical aptitude to learn if unfamiliar
  • Ability to read and write the English language
  • Demonstrated lean techniques
  • Ability to work as part of a team, upholding company values and standards
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Promotion of safety in the workplace while adhering to company safety standards
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. frequently
  • Ability to walk and/or stand for a minimum of 8 hours per shift
