Our Client, a Av Manufacturing company, is looking for a Chassis Engineer - Actuators/Steering for their Foster City, CA location.
Responsibilities- Design and release responsibility for components on our innovative autonomous steering system.
- Deliver these components and the overall steering system, the candidate will be an integral member of the chassis actuator engineering team and will coordinate the execution and delivery of engineering milestones.
- Work with tier one suppliers to lead development and release of components and software related to an active chassis system while meeting cost, weight, timing and performance targets. The scope will focus primarily on the steering system and will be involved in controls development including vehicle testing and evaluation.
- CAN communications and signal analysis.
- Documentation to be delivered in support of component and vehicle execution will include: system and component level technical specifications, failure mode and effects analysis, 2D and 3D computer aided designs, and PLM release process documents.
- This role requires strong collaboration with cross functional partners such as vehicle integration, system integration, functional safety, firmware, and validation.
- Design & Engineer:
Develop hardware and electromechanical systems in CATIA V6, delivering precision 2D drawing packages for assembly. - Analyze Performance:
Conduct static, dynamic, and thermal-mechanical simulations and tests to validate structural integrity and performance. - Manage Suppliers:
Lead external partners through component and firmware development to meet critical program milestones. - Drive Project Timelines:
Own the end-to-end hardware schedule, managing critical paths and technical risks to ensure all deliverables align with vehicle-level milestones and company deadlines. - Lead Cross-Functionally:
Partner with AI, manufacturing, service operations, and several vehicle engineering teams to bridge the gap between hardware, software, DFM, and DFS.
- Significant prior experience in these areas.
- The candidate will have experience with electromechanical systems and with vehicle dynamics development and tuning.
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or a similar discipline with 6+ years of experience in complex hardware development.
- Proven ability to transition components from rapid prototyping through high-volume production, including DFM/DFA, tooling validation, and sustaining engineering.
- CAD & GD&T:
Expert-level CATIA V6 proficiency and a mastery of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) for vehicle components. - Systems Thinking:
Strong understanding of electromechanical integration, system architecture, and functional safety (ISO 26262). - Program Delivery:
Experience navigating the automotive release process and managing long-term project schedules. - Masters in an engineering discipline
- Familiarity with CAN
- Experience at automotive OEM or significant Tier 1
- Polarion, Jira, and Confluence experience.
