Hire Art is helping an on-demand, autonomous ride-hailing company hire a Fleet Support Engineer-HMI Systems to support the operational uptime of its autonomous vehicle fleet.
In this role, you’ll focus on Human Machine Interface (HMI) and passenger experience systems, providing hands‑on technical expertise to quickly diagnose, resolve, and prevent issues impacting fleet operations.
The ideal candidate is a strong technical problem‑solver who collaborates effectively across teams, documents troubleshooting rigorously, and thrives in real‑time operational support environments.
As Fleet Support Engineer‑HMI Systems, You’ll- Serve as the primary technical escalation point for HMI-related issues, including passenger displays, audio/visual alerts, interior cameras, and cabin interaction modules.
- Perform deep root‑cause analysis using system logs (Linux/Android) and electrical diagnostics to resolve complex hardware and software failures.
- Develop, maintain, and improve troubleshooting guides and workflows to enable faster issue resolution by field technicians.
- Execute hardware bring‑up, functional validation, and verification for new HMI components, firmware, and software releases.
- Partner closely with HMI and software engineering teams to improve diagnostic tooling and failure‑mode visibility in the field.
- Define and capture critical data points to validate fixes and measure the effectiveness of corrective actions.
- Provide on‑call support during nights and weekends as needed to ensure continuous fleet operations.
- Occasionally travel within the U.S. to support various operational locations.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related technical field
- 4+ years of experience in automotive, consumer electronics, or autonomous vehicle systems, with emphasis on infotainment, displays, or cockpit electronics
- Hands‑on experience troubleshooting LVDS, Ethernet, CAN, and LIN communication protocols
- Familiarity with display technologies (LCD/OLED), touch controllers, and audio amplifier systems
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, electrical diagrams, connector pinouts, and end views to distinguish wiring issues from component failures
- Strong understanding of hardware/software interaction, including OS‑driven display and audio systems
- Systems‑level problem‑solving mindset, capable of tracing high‑level vehicle symptoms to root‑cause components
- Self‑directed, collaborative, and comfortable building strong cross‑functional relationships
- Experience with Android Automotive or Linux‑based infotainment systems
- Experience providing remote vehicle troubleshooting support
- Knowledge of vehicle systems and Unified Diagnostic Services (UDS)
- Experience using Linux and Python to parse and analyze large log datasets
- Familiarity with networking fundamentals, TCP/IP, and socket programming
- Experience with audio system tuning or debugging

This is a full‑time, ongoing contract position staffed via Hire Art. It will be onsite and available to candidates who are local to the Foster City, CA area.
