Your Role as Unit HeadAs a Unit Head
, you’ll play a key role in shaping the camp experience for campers and staff in your unit. You’ll lead by example, fostering a fun, inclusive, and safe environment while ensuring engaging programming that leaves lasting memories for all participants.
- Kinder Unit: Serves our youngest campers and operates as a day camp program only, with specialized programs on the same days as overnights.
- Yomah Unit: Designed for our 2-3 grade campers and includes overnight experience as part of the program. Unit Heads assigned to Yomah are required to participate in all scheduled overnights.
- Kadima Unit: Our oldest camper unit, Kadima emphasizes leadership, independence, and community building. This program includes overnight camping trips and field trips programs. Unit Heads must be available to support and supervise all overnight and extended activities.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all campers and staff in your unit.
- Train, supervise, and evaluate counselors to maintain a high standard of care.
- Plan and implement engaging programs for campers in grades TK-5.
- Collaborate with staff to ensure seamless camp operations and activities.
- Act as a liaison between parents and staff, addressing concerns and sharing feedback.
- Interact directly with campers, providing guidance and fostering a positive atmosphere.
- Support the goals and values of the PJCC camp program to create memorable experiences for all participants.
Schedule:
- June 15 – August 7 (with limited schedules to August 21)
- Monday–Friday, 7:30 am–4:30 pm, with mandatory staff training from June 1 - June 12 (8am-4:00pm including an overnight).
Compensation: $934–$1,083 per week based on experience, plus overnight bonuses and free PJCC Athletic Center membership.
QualificationsWhat We’re Looking For
- Experience:
Must be a high school graduate or age 18+. 1-2 years of experience in education. - Passion for Youth:
Strong enthusiasm for working with children in grades TK-5. - Curriculum Development:
Experience creating engaging educational materials incorporating Jewish themes. - Certifications:
CPR/AED certification (or willingness to obtain during training). - Team Player:
Collaborative mindset and ability to work with diverse populations. - Camp
Experience:
Prior experience in a camp setting is a bonus.
