Job SummaryThe AVID tutor guides middle school students toward academic and personal excellence, enhancing college readiness through inquiry-based learning and tutoring.
Qualifications- Willing to facilitate inquiry-based learning.
- A desire to make a difference in the lives of students.
- Work with small groups of middle school students.
- Determine concepts that need to be reviewed from student notes and discussions.
- Evaluate student binders, including calendars, class notes, and textbooks.
- Become familiar with the materials in the AVID Curriculum Library.
- Facilitate tutorial sessions about core content areas.
- Set an example of personal excellence and high expectations for AVID students.
- Communicate frequently and honestly with the AVID coordinator/teacher regarding student progress and areas of concern.
Applicants must complete an application and interview. Tutors will receive training in the Socratic tutorial method and ongoing feedback.
