Overview
Term of App't: This position is back filling a temporary leave until return of incumbent. Sunday - Wednesday, 8.75 hours per day
Start date: Immediately
Reporting to: Manager of Facilities
Salary: Classification 17+, $41.33 – $42.61/hour annually, as per the BCGEU Support Collective Agreement. Temporary employees are provided with an additional $0.58/hour in lieu of benefits, and 6% vacation pay, for all regular hours worked.
Responsibilities- Carry out the preventive maintenance and servicing program for all systems on all campuses.
- Diagnose and repair heating, ventilation, plumbing, minor electrical, refrigeration and hot water systems to maintain continuous function.
- Perform general maintenance work on buildings, grounds, and equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair minor electrical and pneumatic control systems.
- Repair faulty systems by changing bearings, motors, couplers, pumps, valves, and controls.
- Operate mobile equipment such as tractors, loaders, and forklifts.
- Travel to surrounding NLC campuses as required; this position is based out of Fort St. John.
- Work independently and as part of a team, contributing to the Facilities Department.
- Utilize troubleshooting skills and work in confined spaces with height tolerance; ensure all work meets regulatory and safety standards.
- Complete approximately one month of training (Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 3:00pm) before reverting to the regular schedule of Sunday – Wednesday 7am - 4:45pm.
- Grade 12 education;
Trades certification in Plumbing or Gasfitter. - Three years of experience in institutional maintenance (equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered).
- Knowledge of HVAC systems, and electrical and computer-operated (reliable controls) DDC heating and cooling systems.
- Fifth Class Power Engineer certificate would be an asset.
- Experience with biomass boiler systems would be an asset.
- General grounds maintenance experience; ability to operate a plow truck, skid steer or loader for snow removal.
- Valid B.C. Class 5 driver's license.
