Job DescriptionPosition Purpose
Summary:
Performs routine and preventative maintenance and repair procedures on all mechanical equipment and utility systems at the Ministry Unit under the supervision of the Managing Director/Supervisor.
Job Duties
- Implements preventative maintenance procedures for related equipment, recommends and performs minor and some moderate repairs (program vehicles, faucet, toilets and light fixtures)
- Undertakes minor renovation projects including dry walling, minor electrical repairs, plumbing; carpentry, and painting; reports safety concerns and major repair issues
- Conducts minor troubleshooting of building systems
- Assists in developing specifications for tenders and in monitoring quality of workmanship of outside contractors and/or maintenance personnel
- Ensures supplies are received, stored, and redistributed to the appropriate departments
- Establishes and monitors preventative maintenance procedures for related equipment; recommends repairs and purchases as required
- Maintains a personal log book. Record all tasks undertaken during shift
- Contacts contractors for service as outlined in pre-established documents
- Understands, communicates and ensures that all employees’ health and safety is of 1st priority by means of safety huddles, safety notifications, supervisory communication, and utilization of regulations and company policies policy and procedures
- Oversees equipment and repair parts data entry and management
- Ensures the general upkeep of the facility including all scheduled maintenance weekly, monthly, yearly…etc
- Ensures the general upkeep of external property such as mowing lawns, keeping sidewalks clear of snow and ice, cleaning main floor windows outside, picking up litter, sweeping sidewalks, gardening/watering and pruning shrubs, raking
- Monitors security and reports breaches
- Communicates regularly with Managing Director and if needed The Occupational Health and Safety Committee in-house
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Written logbook will be maintained, completes maintenance forms, requests quotes from outside contractors, Liaises with outside agencies for facility inspections
- Communicate with guests/clients of shelter, transitional and supportive housing
- Communicate with other staff and volunteers in the building

- Typical working location for this position is in the entire facility and property designated, inside and outside
- Job requires moderate to high attention when using motorized equipment, handling hazardous chemicals and using non-motorized/general cleaning or maintenance equipment
- The performance of the job requires operating equipment and tools, lifting/twisting/carrying/moving, ladder work and find motor skills
- Lifting and carrying objects weighing from 20 to 29 pounds
- Occasionally may need to lift and carry between 40-50 pounds
- Works under the following disagreeable conditions:

- Varying temperatures
- Dealing with angry people
- Exposure to drugs and alcohol
- Verbal abuse
- Work schedule affecting lifestyle
