The Fitness Center Manager oversees daily operations of the gym, ensuring members and guests enjoy an outstanding experience while driving the Fitness Center’s financial success.
- Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and manage team members.
- Complete onboarding responsibilities for all new hires.
- Oversee and supervise the Fitness Center team members on a day-to-day basis, tracking performance and managing performance issues.
- Enforce company policies and procedures consistently with all team members.
- Ensure the Fitness Center is staffed and operational during all business hours.
- Supervise member services to maintain a consistently high level of customer satisfaction.
- Provide customer service support to team members, guests and members, including membership enrollments, terminations, and general inquiries.
- Perform front desk responsibilities, including greeting members, conducting tours, and resolving service questions or concerns.
- Foster and manage quality relationships with owner, members and guests.
- Foster and maintain a professional and positive image of the Fitness Center.
- Train team members on current marketing campaigns and promotions.
- Address and resolve member and guest comments and concerns.
- Monitor inventory and place supply orders as needed.
- Design, implement, and evaluate a variety of fitness, health promotions tailored to owner’s needs.
- Ensure the Fitness Center, exercise areas and locker rooms are monitored, safe, and compliant with health and safety guidelines.
- Ensure that the Fitness Center is well stocked and clean.
- Lead and manage the group exercise program, including scheduling and instruction.
- Manage the lost and found program, ensuring any items left behind by members and guest are returned to the rightful owner.
- Ensure all fitness equipment is safe, clean, and in good working condition.
- Schedule regular inspections, maintenance, arranging repairs or replacements, and removing faulty equipment from use and maintaining accurate documentation.
- Ensure Fitness Center team members are trained on proper equipment use and cleaning procedures.
- Perform other tasks and duties as assigned to support the department’s success and exceed owner’s expectations.
- Manage fitness app/website used for workouts, class scheduling, tracking progress, or member engagement
- Ensure app integrates smoothly with gym equipment, wearable devices, and membership systems
- Train team members on how to use the app effectively
- Monitoring app performance, updates, and user feedback to improve the member experience
- Coordinating with app providers for troubleshooting, upgrades, and data security
- Use app data to track participation, engagement, and program effectiveness
- Ensure member data privacy and compliance with relevant regulations
- Develop and implement a marketing plan to attract new members
- Manage sales & marketing efforts and monitor membership trends
- Address inquiries, tours, and membership concerns to drive sign-ups
- Train and supervise team members to contribute to membership targets
- Build relationships with current members to improve retention
- Drive, track and report on key metrics regularly.
- Participate in the completion of the P/L.
- Assist in the development of the department budget and strategic business plan and monitor for progress monthly as a part of client monthly operations updates as measured against annual goals.
- Must have employment eligibility in the U.S.
- Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, fitness or business-related fields preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of management experience in a fitness environment, including hands‑on training experience leading group exercise classes and tailoring workouts for various fitness levels.
- Current CPR/AED/First Aid certification is required.
- Current certification from a nationally accredited industry association such as NASM, ACSM, NSCA, ACE is preferred.
