Role OverviewThe Medical Gas Plumber is responsible for the installation, modification, testing, and maintenance of medical gas and vacuum piping systems within healthcare facilities. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the safe, reliable, and code-compliant delivery of life-supporting medical gases in hospitals, clinics, and medical buildings.
Work is performed in active healthcare environments and requires strict adherence to safety, infection control, and regulatory standards.
Core Responsibilities- Install, modify, and repair medical gas piping systems, including oxygen, nitrous oxide, medical air, vacuum, and WAGD systems
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and medical gas drawings
- Perform brazing using NFPA 99-compliant methods with nitrogen purge
- Conduct system pressure testing, purging, verification, and documentation
- Ensure compliance with NFPA 99, NFPA 54, ASSE standards, and local codes
- Coordinate with inspectors, verifiers, project managers, and healthcare staff
- Troubleshoot system issues and implement corrective actions
- Maintain accurate records of installations, testing, and system verification
- Follow strict safety and infection-control protocols in active healthcare facilities
- Current Medical Gas Certification (ASSE 6010 or equivalent required)
- Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on medical gas plumbing experience
- Proficiency in brazing with nitrogen purge
- Strong working knowledge of NFPA 99 and healthcare construction standards
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Reliable transportation and ability to travel to project sites
- High attention to detail with a strong commitment to safety
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification (Preferred)
- Experience working in active hospital or healthcare environments (Preferred)
