** Job Description

Summary:

** Salary: $20.86 per hour    The Mechanic Assistant will assist the Fleet Operations department with the maintenance and repair of TRWD vehicles and heavy equipment as well as keeping the equipment and work environment in clean and in good working order. They will work as part of a team to assist other operations departments with other duties such as vegetation maintenance, structure inspection and repair, and manual labor.

**** Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

* Assist Fleet Mechanics with the analysis, diagnostics and maintenance on various vehicles and heavy equipment, such as a uniloader, backhoe, water truck, grapple truck, ag tractor, gradall, dump truck, excavator, dozer, track and rubber tire loader, maintainer
* Use a variety of shop tools including, but not limited to, welders, wrenches, air compressors, sockets, cutting torches and drill press to perform maintenance and repairs
* Clean, maintain and inspect all equipment daily
* Clean and maintain mechanic shop daily
* Regularly maintain tool inventory
* Uphold safety/environmental standards and clean work environment
* Interact and coordinate with other TRWD personnel
* Assist with construction projects including, but not limited to, building fences, pouring, and finishing concrete, carpentry, and painting
* Assist with vegetation maintenance, painting, building fences and cleaning pipelines, floodway, ROW or in operations facilities/property
* Pull and park utility trailers
* Utilize weed eaters, zero turn mowers and/or standard mowers
* Pick up trash along ROW and/or floodway
* Maintain familiarity with strategic district levels of service
* Continuous improvement monitoring and innovation efforts
* Perform other duties as required
*
* Required Experience:

*** One (1) year of experience as mechanic using analysis/diagnostic equipment
* Knowledge of lubrication procedures and types of oil used in servicing equipment
* Ability to move heavy equipment such as, uniloader, backhoe, water truck, grapple truck, ag tractor, gradall, dump truck, excavator, dozer, track and rubber tire loader, maintainer
* General knowledge of fleet electrical systems, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, HVAC systems, and/or small engine repair
* Basic knowledge of safety and environmental standards
* Prior experience using a weed eater and/or standard mower
* Pulling and backing up utility trailers
* Ability to accomplish one of the following:  + Operator a tractor  + Grind, cut, or weld  + Light fleet mechanical repairs
** Desired

Experience:

*** Prior experience using a zero-turn mower
* Prior experience painting
** Required Education/Certification/License:
*** Valid Texas driver’s license
** Desired Education/Certification/License:
*** Mechanic classes. education, or additional mechanical experience
* High School Diploma
* Valid Texas CDL Class A or B without restriction E
* Tanker (N) endorsement
* Hazmat (H) with Tanker (N) endorsement
* Doubles/Triples (T) endorsement
