Field Operations is a 24/7 Operation - weekend work may be required. This position is a first responder in severe weather conditions/emergencies which will be subject to work after hours, emergency call back hours, nights, weekends, holidays and will participate in an on‑call rotation schedule.

Ready to roll up your sleeves and help keep Fort Worth running? Fort Worth Water is hiring Maintenance Workers to support our 24/7 Field Operations Division—repairing, maintaining, and constructing the infrastructure that delivers clean water and collects wastewater across the city.

This is a boots‑on‑the‑ground role where you’ll work outdoors, operate tools and equipment, and help maintain pipelines, valves, hydrants, manholes, and more. Whether you’re digging trenches or clearing obstructions, your work directly impacts the health and safety of Fort Worth residents.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License
  • Ability to obtain a TCEQ Class I Wastewater Collection or Water Class D license within one year of hire (This requires passing a written test and background check)
  • Flexibility to work overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays as required
  • Willingness to participate in on‑call rotation as needed
  • Ability to pass a physical examination, drug screening, and background check
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of experience working in maintenance and or construction
Maintenance Worker’s

Job Responsibilities Include
  • Operate a variety of hand tools and power tools such as shovels, rakes, pick‑axes, and other equipment to perform construction and repair of water/wastewater mains, manholes, vaults, services, valves, fire hydrants, and meters
  • Operate valves on water lines to isolate leaking sections
  • Repair leaks or breaks in the distribution or collection system
  • Assist in operating wastewater collection equipment to clear obstructions
  • Replace and repair manholes and assist in locating sewer and water lines
  • Operate light and medium equipment such as trucks, tractors, jackhammers, cement mixers, and other equipment related to maintenance and construction operations
Working Conditions and Physical Demand

Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting; depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, chemicals, oils and workspace restrictions. Heavy Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up‑to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
