Pay Range: $19.74 - $24.67/hr.

Sign‑On Incentive: $2,000 sign‑on incentive: 50% paid on completion of the first pay period, 50% paid after 6 months of employment.

Workdays & Hours
  • Monday - Thursday, 7:00 am - 5:30 pm
  • Tuesday - Friday, 7:00 am - 5:30 pm

This position is a first responder in severe weather conditions/emergencies, which will be subject to work after hours, emergency call‑back hours, nights, weekends, holidays, and will participate in an on‑call rotation schedule.

An Equipment Operator job is available with the City of Fort Worth TPW Street Operations Department. Candidates for this position will work in designated asphalt and concrete maintenance sectors. Street Operations maintains over 8,500 lane‑miles across the city, ensuring our communities enjoy safe, reliable commutes.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma/GED
  • One (1) year of responsible experience in operation of heavy equipment or construction experience
  • Must possess a Class A Driver’s License and ability to obtain a Tank Endorsement within six (6) months of hire; operations of a hydro‑mulch vehicle, water truck, and/or Vactor as required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices
  • Work zone safety
  • Additional construction repair and maintenance experience
  • Concrete or Asphalt experience
  • Experience with saws, compressors, generators, various hand tools, skid steer, and excavator
  • Basic computer skills & data entry experience
The Equipment Operator

Job Responsibilities Include
  • Work in all weather conditions
  • Equipment operations and manual labor duties as they relate to street maintenance operations
  • Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in the Department and City attendance policies and procedures; ensures all behaviors comply with City’s Personnel Rules and Regulations
  • Performs preventative maintenance on equipment assigned. Performs pre and post trip inspection on equipment.
  • Loads and unloads heavy materials and equipment by hand and with tools/machines
  • Assists with set‑up of traffic control cones and barriers
  • Maintains paperwork, responds to high priority calls and provides training and instruction to other personnel who operate equipment related to assigned division

Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting; depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, chemicals, oils and workspace restrictions.

Physical Demand

Heavy Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
