Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Performs advanced level mechanical, electrical, preventative maintenance on gasoline, propane, and diesel‑powered engines and/or heavy‑du equipment. As a senior level mechanic, inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs trucks and/or heavy off‑road equipment.

ResponsibilitiesNOTE: You must fill out the work history and education sections of application to show you have years of experience/education as required by hiring department or be disqualified.
Qualifications- High school diploma or GED. (An additional four (4) full‑time years of related experience may substitute for a high‑school diploma).
- Three (3) years of experience as a full‑time mechanic required (diesel mechanic preferred) as well as heavy truck/offroad mechanic experience strongly preferred.
- Certification of graduation from an accredited Mechanic Trade School may substitute for one year of experience.
- A current and valid Class C driver license is required upon hire.
- A Class A CDL with a combination tanker and hazmat endorsement is required within eight (8) months of hire.
- May require certification in specific trade or training such as A/C or ASE coursework.
- Vehicle Inspection License and Welder Certification preferred.
- Controlled Area Network (CAN) experience preferred.
- Additional technician certifications and licenses preferred.
- Must know how to repair highly complex off‑road construction equipment with specialty certifications and licenses preferred.

If hired, must provide proof of educational attainment at new hire processing.
Tarrant County will conduct background checks on new hires that will include a criminal background check related to convictions and deferred adjudications in the past seven years and may include credit reports, motor vehicle records, employment records and educational attainment. A conviction or deferred adjudication is not an automatic bar to employment. Each case is considered individually.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENTWhile performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to sit, walk, climb, stoop, lift, push and pull.
