The Area Director of Sales manages planning and execution of sales and marketing for a portfolio of 2-10 hotels, driving profitability and occupancy growth.
Qualifications- At least 4 years of progressive hotel sales experience preferred; or a 4-year college degree and at least 2 years of related experience; or a 2-year college degree and at least 4 years of related experience.
- Prior Director of Sales or National Sales experience selling major downtown markets is required.
- Must have a valid driver’s license in the applicable state.
- Strong verbal & written communication skills, including negotiation and influencing.
- Proven selling skills: opening, probing, supporting, closing.
- Strong analytical and strategic vision for sales deployment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and general computer skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks independently.
- Excellent organization, presentation, and people management skills.
- Experience working with diverse teams and solving complex problems.
- Advanced knowledge in sales/marketing/hospitality principles.
- Resilience and composure under high-pressure situations.
- Basic financial data interpretation and arithmetic skills.
- Coordinate group, transient, and catering sales to maximize revenue.
- Develop and manage sales automation and database for campaigns.
- Prepare and execute the division’s annual budget, advertising, marketing, and sales plans.
- Plan sales trips to key feeder markets, identifying revenue-driving accounts.
- Conduct outside sales calls, tours, and client engagements.
- Negotiate contract terms and monitor account performance.
- Maintain market awareness to anticipate revenue opportunities.
- Monitor top account production and assess trends.
- Perform on‑property visits to evaluate sales leadership and adherence to standards.
- Meet individual and team goals and budget metrics.
- Train staff to capture sales opportunities.
- Lead HR functions: hiring, training, performance reviews, conflict resolution.
- Acquire working knowledge of hotel operations across sales, F&B, front office, reservations.
- Engage with local community and industry organizations.
- Participate in meetings and periodic functions; provide training punctually.
- Maintain communication across hotels for marketing collaboration.
- Travel weekly as required.
- Act as General Manager’s proxy when needed.
