Founded in 1905, the Humane Society of North Texas is the oldest animal welfare organization in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. HSNT serves animals in need by providing services such as pet adoptions, spay/neuter surgeries and low-cost vaccinations, returning lost pets to their owners, cruelty investigations and humane euthanasia. We operate two pet adoption centers in Tarrant County as well as Pet Smart and Pet Co Cat Adoption Centers and an equine ranch located in Johnson County.
EssentialFunctions of the Position
- Provide daily care, monitoring, medications, and treatments as directed
- Perform examinations of animals and preventative medical care as directed
- Ability to accurately identify illness and injury on various breeds and species
- Ability to perform venipuncture, subcutaneous injections, and intramuscular injections
- Venipuncture and performing diagnostic testing including but not limited to fecal tests, skin scrape collection and interpretation, heartworm testing, parvo testing, etc
- Evaluate animals for health and behavioral issues and/or foster needs
- Report observed health or behavior issues and/or foster needs to the Shelter Veterinarian
- Clean assigned areas on a daily basis in compliance with standard operating procedures
- Provide animal husbandry education and resources for humane alternatives for potential surrenders compassionately if directed
- Accurate management of medical records in accordance with the law
- Maintain inventory of necessary supplies and overhead with the ability to identify low stock of supplies
- Maintain equipment in good working condition and report any problems or needed repairs to supervisor
- Represent the Humane Society of North Texas by providing compassionate customer service and focus
- Additional tasks assigned by supervisor
- Working knowledge of controlled substance use, storage, and recording
- Perform euthanasia according to standard operating procedures after successful completion of a required certification course
- Perform each euthanasia and body preparation or disposal with respect and care
- Follow and respect the mission of the Humane Society of North Texas
- Thorough knowledge of the Humane Society of North Texas admitting policies and procedures
- Knowledge of Humane Society of North Texas policies and protocols, such as, but not limited to, adoption, disinfection, and medical/rehabilitation protocols
- Working knowledge of various breeds, species, diseases, medical conditions, animal handling and behavior
- Ability to handle animals safely and with patience and gentleness
- Ability to represent the Humane Society of North Texas in a professional manner in all situations with the public, volunteers, and staff
- Ability to create and sustain positive working relationships within the Humane Society of North Texas, with volunteers, the public, and be a team player
- Must be patient, courteous and work well under stressful and high volume conditions
- Knowledge and ability to accurately work with detailed information in paper and digital format
- Must be detail oriented, prompt, reliable, and have strong time management skills
- Ability to read, write and communicate effectively
- Ability to learn and quickly adapt to changes in programs and procedures
- LVT preferred but not required
- 2+ years of veterinary medical experience

- While performing the duties of this job this position may be exposed to unpleasant animal odors or airborne particles
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high
- The individual performing this job may be required to work more than 8 hours in a day or 40 hours in a week with overtime paid
