Job Description
YMCA Camp Carter is seeking enthusiastic and safety-minded Boating & Fishing Instructors to join our Program Team. This part‑time seasonal position leads engaging and educational boating, canoeing, kayaking, and fishing experiences for school groups, retreats, summer camps, and other guests on our 360‑acre property.

Instructors help campers and guests build confidence on the water, learn outdoor skills, and connect with nature. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about fishing, water safety, outdoor education, and youth development.

Responsibilities
  • Teach safe boating and fishing techniques to participants of all ages.
  • Ensure proper use and care of watercraft, fishing equipment, and safety gear.
  • Supervise participants closely and enforce YMCA safety policies and procedures.
  • Provide positive instruction and role modeling to campers and guests.
  • Assist with setup, cleanup, and maintenance of program areas and equipment.
  • Support other camp program areas as needed, including team‑building or evening programs.
  • Maintain accurate program records as requested by program leadership.
Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Strong swimming skills and comfort working on and near water.
  • Experience with boating, canoeing, kayaking, and/or fishing preferred.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekdays, evenings, and occasional weekends.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and group management skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs., hike, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Lifeguard, boating, or fishing certifications a plus training provided if needed.

Pay Rate
: $12-15/hour (based on experience)
