Job SummaryThe Registered Nurse assesses, plans, directs, implements, and assists in providing quality patient care for assigned patients.
Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities- Plan, assess, direct, implement, and provide quality patient care for assigned patients, including modifying nursing care, medication administration, and discharge planning; provide individualized education in coordination with policies and procedures.
- Monitor changes in patient condition, including recording/reporting symptoms, assessing vital signs, and intervening when appropriate.
- Perform complete data collection from patient presenting complaints and pertinent history.
- Collaborate with patients to identify treatment goals, and discharge patients as appropriate with a written discharge plan; encourage family participation as appropriate.
- Deliver nursing care, including assessment and planning of patient education, pain management, and discharge using the nursing process.
- Document accurately in medical records, on forms, and in the computer, entering appropriate orders, patient charges, and other information to meet standards, policy, and procedures.
- Deliver quality care using multidisciplinary team strategies and minimizing risk of infection, harm, or injury.
- Maintain accurate detailed reports and records and direct care according to age, developmental stage, presenting complaints, and pertinent history.
- Work at maintaining a rapport and cooperative relationships with physicians, departments, staff, patients, and visitors.
- Anticipate deteriorating vital sign patterns or equipment malfunctions and take appropriate action.
- Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patient responses and conditions.
- Collaborate with patient‑care team members on patient care plan, incorporating consistent hand‑off communication.
- Conduct and coordinate patient care and patient transfers in accordance with EMTALA regulations, as applicable.
- Perform additional department‑specific functions as outlined in department procedures.
- Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
- Nursing diploma from an accredited diploma program, or associate or higher degree in nursing from an accredited school of professional nursing.
- Current licensure by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners or proof of reciprocity within 90 days.
- Relevant experience: 6 months‑1.99 years (RN I), 2‑4.99 years (RN II), 5‑9.99 years (RN III), 10+ years (RN IV).
- Current JPS‑recognized BLS certification, maintained throughout employment.
- Complete AAP Neonatal Resuscitation within 3 months of hire and maintain credentialing throughout employment.
- Complete all required departmental training per the JPS Clinical Job Specific Competency Validation Checklist within specified timelines (orientation, EKG, AWHONN monitoring, ACLS, NICU orientation).
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited school of professional nursing.
- Certifications in nursing specialties.
