This position will float across multiple Texas Health Urgent Care locations.
The Advanced Practice Provider is responsible for providing direct consumer care to assigned consumers within an urgent care setting. This position works under limited direction yet in coordination with an APP lead. Typical work scenarios require specialized knowledge, critical thinking, sound judgment based upon the principles of biological, physiological, behavioral, and sociological sciences skills, as well as strong customer service skills.
Internal contacts include medical staff and management throughout the clinic and health system. External contacts include consumers, physicians, outside medical staff, and community resource services.
- Master's Degree Nursing or Physician Assistant required
- Bachelor's Degree Physician Assistant accepted if graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program prior to January 2021 required
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program required
- 6 months as an APP in an urgent care or emergency department setting required
- 1 year in family practice or related field required
- Suturing experience strongly preferred
- RN - Registered Nurse with the state of Texas upon hire required
- NP - Nurse Practitioner with Texas licensure and certificate to practice as a Nurse Practitioner issued by the Texas State Board upon hire required
- National certification or eligible for certification as Nurse Practitioner upon hire required
- PA - Physician Assistant with the state of Texas upon hire required
- Texas licensure and certificate to practice as a Physician Assistant issued by the Texas State Board upon hire required
- National certification or eligible for certification as Physician Assistant upon hire required
- Valid Drug Enforcement Agency license upon hire required
- BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support (through AHA or American Red Cross), maintain every 2 years required within 30 days of hire
- Performs and provides treatments for minor acute illnesses, consumer examinations, makes initial assessments, initiates treatment and refers to appropriate center of care when applicable.
- Determines abnormal conditions by administering or ordering diagnostic tests such as X-rays, electrocardiograms, and laboratory studies; interprets test results.
- Performs therapeutic procedures by administering injections and immunizations, suturing; manages wounds and infections.
- Instructs and counsels consumers by describing therapeutic regimens; gives normal growth and development information and promotes wellness and health maintenance.
- Develops and implements consumer management plans, records progress notes, and assists in provision of continuity of care; may supervise ancillary staff.
- Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions and refers consumers to specialists and relevant consumer care options.
- Demonstrates good organizational skills in coordinating services with co‑workers and other departments/services.
- Responds to stressful situations in a calm, rational manner and cooperates with all to facilitate integration of services.
- Behaves in a professional and empathetic manner to build trust, comfort, understanding, and relationships with consumers and the secondary guest(s) and in line with consumer and guest service standards.
