About the role:

Reporting to the Director of Continuous Improvement, the Mechanic Tech I is responsible for repairing and installing production and packaging equipment; performing preventative maintenance; and diagnosing and fixing malfunctions. The role involves continuous problem‑solving in challenging environments and requires frequent physical activity.

Compensation:

$65,000 - $95,000 per year DOE

Schedule:

Weekdays

What you’ll do:
  • Ensure every production line runs smoothly, from mechanical systems and packaging machines to batching, processing, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems using schematics, technical drawings, and testing equipment as necessary.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on production lines and critical systems, including daily routine inspection and maintenance, and planned preventive maintenance at regular intervals.
  • Recommend necessary spare parts and backup equipment for optimal performance.
  • Scope projects, prepare cost estimates, and manage external contractors/subcontractors for labor‑intensive or specialty projects, such as new machine installations, extensive repairs, and production line upgrades.
  • Work with the Production team to understand feedback from running daily shifts on the production lines.
  • React quickly to recurring or extended downtime with a repair or upgrade plan.
  • Join production shifts to observe machine function and troubleshoot during production when necessary.
  • Collaborate with the Production and Operations teams to coordinate planned downtime to complete installations, repairs, or replacements.
  • Create and maintain routine maintenance logs for all major machines and packaging equipment.
  • Maintain performance and downtime/efficiency logs for all major machines and packaging equipment to better understand the impact of maintenance‑led initiatives.
What you’ll bring:
  • Extensive hands‑on technical experience with high‑speed bottling and packaging equipment.
  • Proficiency in reading and applying knowledge from product manuals to make repairs.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical breakdowns, including diagnosing and resolving issues.
  • Familiarity with basic electrical systems, including starters, fuses, contacts, and relays.
  • Knowledge of conveyors, air cylinders, diverters, sensors, and motor/speed controls.
  • Experience with electronics such as level probes, flow meters, and drives/VFDs.
  • Proficiency in working with gearing and gearboxes, including rebuilds and parts ordering.
  • Understanding of high‑pressure hydraulic systems, including cylinders, pumps, and valves.
  • Experience with and interest in automation and OEE, PLCs, and inspection systems.
  • Data‑driven, documentation‑oriented approach to troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and continuous improvement.
