Job Description & How to Apply Below

We’re looking for a hands‑on 2nd Shift Supervisor who thrives in autonomy, leads from the shop floor, and has strong CNC machining experience—especially in 5‑axis environments. You’ll guide a tight‑knit team capable of owning full part production, unblocking bottlenecks, and keeping product flowing through the plant.

What You’ll Do Leadership & Team Direction
  • Lead a highly cross‑trained second‑shift “seal team” capable of taking an order from raw material to finished part.
  • Assign work based on bottlenecks, capacity constraints, and customer priorities to keep product flowing.
  • Provide hands‑on leadership, coaching, and daily guidance to ensure team performance, safety, and quality.
  • Conduct performance reviews, corrective actions, and employee development plans.
  • Manage day‑to‑day operations of the department, ensuring efficient workflow, adherence to safety protocols, and compliance with time‑keeping and performance management procedures.
CNC & Technical Responsibilities
  • Act as the technical lead for the second shift, providing support for CNC mill‑turn setups.
  • Assist operators with machine setups, offsets, tool changes, and basic program edits as required.
  • Prioritize and oversee operations on CNC lathes, 3‑axis mill and 5‑axis CNC multi‑axis machines (preferably DMG Mori, Brother, Doosan).
Production Execution
  • Manage and expedite work orders through the department to meet daily production and shipping goals.
  • Monitor part flow, identify bottlenecks, track scrap and rework, and optimize machine utilization in real time.
  • Coordinate with day‑shift leads and managers for smooth handoffs and operational continuity.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, record scrap transactions, and ensure compliance with travelers, prints, and specifications.
Problem Solving & Independence
  • Serve as the primary decision‑maker on second shift, resolving technical, personnel, and production issues with minimal support.
  • Quickly troubleshoot machining, quality, and scheduling challenges to reduce downtime.
  • Analyze recurring problems and communicate improvement opportunities to management.
Safety, Quality & Continuous Improvement
  • Promote a culture of safety, enforcing PPE, housekeeping, and safe machining practices.
  • Hold the team accountable to quality standards, dimensional accuracy, and documentation requirements.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts including workflow optimization, tooling improvements, and reduction of setup times.
  • Participate in root cause investigations for safety or quality incidents.
What You’ll Bring Experience & Technical Background
  • 7+ years of experience in CNC lathe/mill machining, with strong preference for proven experience on 5‑axis machines.
  • Prior supervisory, lead, or team‑lead experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot and document CNC machining issues without immediate engineering or day‑shift support.
  • Solid understanding of G & M code, feeds/speeds, tooling, and geometric tolerancing.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, and technical drawings.
Leadership & Communication
  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to motivate, coach, and hold team members accountable.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to give direction clearly and professionally.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain calm, productive operations in an “on an island” shift environment.
Operational Strengths
  • High shop‑floor presence (approx. 2/3 of the shift) with a hands‑on leadership approach.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple competing tasks.
  • Detail‑oriented mindset with a focus on quality, precision, and follow‑through.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with ERP/MRP systems preferred.
  • Solid math skills and ability to complete documentation with accuracy.
Personal Traits
  • Problem Solver:
Naturally steps into issues, analyzes root causes, and drives solutions.
  • Independent:
Comfortable making decisions and leading without constant direction.
  • Team‑Oriented:
Builds trust and collaboration among second‑shift personnel.
  • Adaptable:
Thrives in changing priorities and workflow demands.
  • Safety‑Oriented:
    Strong…
