Position Purpose

Supervises, plans, coordinates, and participates in the cleaning, grounds maintenance, and operation of District facilities using routine procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds.

Cleaning & Disinfecting
  • Maintain a cleaning schedule that includes cleaning floors, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment, classrooms, offices, gymnasiums, cafeteria, auditorium, and restrooms.
  • Keep the school building and grounds (including sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and play areas) neat and clean.
  • Comply with local laws and procedures for storage of materials and disposal of trash.
  • Assist in maintaining an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment; request additional supplies as needed.
  • Ensure that District guidelines are followed when applying disinfectant.
Maintenance, Repairs & Operations
  • Assist with lunchroom set‑up, including arranging tables and chairs.
  • Perform preventive maintenance to ensure the comfort, health, and safety of students and staff; make minor building repairs as needed; report major repair needs to Principal and Maintenance via the work‑order system.
  • Communicate with Maintenance regarding the regulation of heating, ventilation, and air‑conditioning systems to provide appropriate temperatures and ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity via the work‑order system.
  • Move furniture or equipment within the building as needed.
  • Assist in setting up facilities for special events.
  • Supervise and participate in watering lawns, shrubs, and trees involving the operation of manual or automatic irrigation systems in accordance with instructions from Maintenance & Operations.
  • Possess knowledge of shut‑off valves and utility cutoffs, including fire sprinkler systems; check and operate fire extinguishers.
  • Order, receive, check, and disburse custodial supplies and equipment; store and distribute supplies and equipment; maintain an inventory of related records as required; and post Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
Team Lead
  • Assist with opening and closing the building each school day, checking to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during hours of building occupancy; follow established procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing; operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to the supervisor.
  • Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency; maintain inspection records, report needed repairs to the direct supervisor; submit appropriate work orders as needed.

  • Maintain records and submit reports on plant security, vandalism, thefts, emergencies, supplies, use of facilities, and related matters.

  • Confere with school personnel regarding the use of facilities and equipment, site security, special programs and activities, and animal regulations.
  • Review and submit custodial time reports and train new employees in the proper use of time and attendance.
  • Train and instruct assigned custodial personnel in cleaning methods, use of materials, operation of custodial and landscaping procedures, equipment, and related tasks.
  • Recommend custodial needs and recommend priorities for the custodial program.
  • Assist with custodial employee evaluations and recommend corrective action.
