Primary Purpose
To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them clean, sanitary and orderly, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.
Essential Responsibilities- High dusting – using a treated high duster, clean in a counter‑clockwise direction around the room, focusing on surfaces above shoulder height, such as lights, curtain tips, vents, and ledges.
- Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning – using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height, remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls, and spot‑clean windows.
- Bathroom Cleaning – wipe down surfaces in the following order: above and below sink, toilet seat and outside of the bowl; clean inside of the toilet with a Johnnie Mop and solution; check and refill soap dispensers and paper dispensers; empty trash cans (wipe if liquid inside).
- Floor dusting or Vacuuming – use treated dust mophead or vacuum, starting at the back of the room, working counter‑clockwise, sweeping dust into a dustpan, and disposing into service cart.
- Grounds care – keep outside areas clean and checked several times a day: empty and clean ash urns and trash cans; police sidewalks, flower beds and curb lines for trash, cigarette butts and spills; remove gum; wipe benches, vending machines, lower window ledges; high dust for dust and cobwebs; clean public area glass as necessary; police parking lot for trash.
- Public common areas – dust mop and spot mop main hallways; ensure glass is cleaned several times a day; keep planters clean and free from bird waste; perform high dusting of windows at least twice a week.
- Food court – clean, remove trash, sanitize tables, place chairs; spot clean spills; empty and clean trash cans; remove dirty trays for washing; police outside eating areas.
- Floor sanitizing – start at back of room, mop under furniture and behind doors.
- Inspection – review cleaning steps mentally and visually spot‑check furniture placement, correct as needed.
- Customer relations – knock lightly on doors before entering if occupied; be friendly, courteous, answer questions or refer; report any broken items to supervisor; keep noise low; stay in assigned area unless directed; maintain a clean personal appearance; report incomplete work to supervisor.
- Other duties – as assigned by supervisor/Account Manager (e.g., stripping and waxing floors, carpet extraction and bonneting, auto scrub and buffing).
- Knowledge of basic janitorial operations, methods, materials, equipment and safe work practices.
- Familiarity with toxic and non‑toxic chemicals per MSDS sheets.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; communicate with co‑workers and supervisors.
- Operate powered and non‑powered janitorial equipment.
- Interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
- Maintain physical condition suitable for duties: walking, standing, sitting for extended periods; operating equipment; lifting/carrying 1–30 lbs; pushing/pulling 5–35 lbs force; climbing stairs/ladders; bending, twisting, balancing; kneeling, crouching, crawling; reaching, handling, grasping; overhead reaching; sight, depth perception, hand‑eye coordination.
