The Supply Chain Manager is a senior-level leadership role responsible for the strategic direction, operational execution, and continuous improvement of Star Industries’ end-to-end supply chain. This role owns raw material procurement, supplier strategy, inventory investment and velocity, production planning alignment, warehouse replenishment, and supply chain risk management.
This leader ensures uninterrupted supply to production while optimizing working capital, improving inventory performance, and protecting margin. This position operates as a key member of the Star Industries Management Team, driving scalable systems, disciplined execution, and long-term supply chain resilience.
Job Responsibilities Strategic Procurement & Supplier Leadership- Lead sourcing strategy for all major raw material categories, with primary emphasis on steel.
- Identify, evaluate, and develop strategic suppliers aligned with Star Industries’ quality, delivery, and cost objectives.
- Negotiate contracts, pricing agreements, and long-term supply commitments.
- Establish supplier redundancy and risk mitigation strategies to ensure supply continuity.
- Own supplier performance management, including quality, delivery, responsiveness, and cost competitiveness.
- Oversee and protect critical Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) relationship.
- Own finished goods inventory strategy across Star Industries’ warehouse locations.
- Develop and execute initiatives to improve inventory velocity, turns, and return on working capital.
- Implement SKU segmentation and demand-based stocking strategies.
- Reduce slow-moving and obsolete inventory through structured review and action planning.
- Balance service levels with disciplined inventory investment decisions.
- Oversee replenishment strategy across all warehouse and distribution locations.
- Ensure inventory positioning aligns with demand patterns, regional growth, and customer expectations.
- Coordinate internal inventory balancing and replenishment logistics.
- Improve fill rates, minimize stockouts, and support on-time customer delivery.
- Lead and oversee the Planning Specialist responsible for production planning and replenishment execution.
- Implement and maintain a structured Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) process.
- Ensure alignment between sales demand, production capacity, procurement strategy, and inventory positioning.
- Manage forecast accuracy and capacity planning to support operational stability.
- Provide leadership and accountability for daily purchasing execution.
- Oversee MRO and transactional purchasing through the Buyer role.
- Ensure purchasing discipline, PO accuracy, and timely supplier follow-up.
- Maintain tight control of raw material spend and monthly cost performance.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards related to material procurement.
- Maintain accurate records of procurement transactions, contracts, and supplier communications.
- Monitor tariff exposure, supplier country-of-origin risk, and import/export cost implications.
- Develop mitigation strategies including alternate sourcing, renegotiated terms, and pricing protection.
- Maintain awareness of market conditions impacting steel pricing, lead times, and availability.
- Apply lean manufacturing and supply chain principles to improve material flow and reduce waste.
- Identify process improvement opportunities across procurement, planning, and inventory management.
- Implement systems, tools, and standard work that scale with company growth.
- Develop and deliver supply chain metrics, dashboards, and performance reporting.
- Use data-driven analysis to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
- Bring forward strategic recommendations related to cost structure, inventory investment, and supplier risk.
