How will this role impact the organization?

The Cloud Engineer position is responsible for the design, installation, configuration, operation, and administration of a highly available hybrid cloud environment. Working within an agile shared services team, this role helps enable stable infrastructure for applications and supports repeatable processes through automation of build, deployment, and proactive monitoring activities. The individual must understand emerging trends in hybrid cloud technologies and apply practical solutions to meet business needs.

This position focuses on cloud technology and operations while also requiring knowledge of on-premise datacenter infrastructure. The role involves making technical recommendations, supporting project teams, and providing third-tier support for complex issues.

The Cloud Engineer should have subject matter experience in at least two of the following areas: cloud computing, cloud storage, virtual networks, infrastructure automation (Infrastructure as Code), secure networking, and Dev Sec Ops  within an Azure or AWS environment.

What will the employee do in this role?

Establish, monitor, and maintain cloud infrastructure, systems hardware, operating systems, and related network and security components to ensure reliable operations

Monitor cloud platform maintenance and outages, assess impact, and develop strategies to minimize disruption

Collaborate with developers and agile teams on compute resource expansion and feature deployments while ensuring capacity planning is accurate

Build and automate cloud infrastructure using modern automation frameworks and templates

Optimize network infrastructure supporting IaaS, SaaS, and PaaS environments

Produce and maintain documentation for installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of both cloud and on-prem infrastructure

Investigate connectivity, performance, and security issues to determine root cause and implement solutions

Participate in designing and implementing hybrid cloud architecture roadmaps

Integrate cloud solutions into existing infrastructure and assist development teams with deployments

Coordinate with vendors, service providers, and internal teams to resolve infrastructure issues

Participate in an on-call rotation and provide support outside standard working hours when required

Required qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field

Experience

5+ years of progressive experience in computing or network infrastructure

3+ years of experience in a cloud environment, preferably Azure, as a cloud engineer, administrator, or Dev Ops professional

Experience designing, building, and maintaining cloud infrastructure

Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code and configuration management tools

Experience managing both on-prem infrastructure and cloud platforms (IaaS and PaaS), including virtual machines, networking, and automation tools

Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Azure Dev Ops, Puppet, Chef, or similar

Ability to deploy infrastructure through automation and contribute to application architecture design

Experience with monitoring tools and Dev Ops practices

Experience with load balancing platforms

Preferred technologies

Microsoft Windows Server environments

Cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS

Cloud security and monitoring tools

Linux / Unix systems

Cisco routing and switching platforms

Palo Alto or similar firewall technologies

Certifications (preferred)

Microsoft certifications (MCSE or similar)

Azure certifications

AWS certifications

Cisco certifications (CCNA / CCNP)

Key skills and abilities

Ability to diagnose and resolve system and infrastructure issues independently

Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills

Critical thinking and analytical problem solving

Ability to document and communicate technical findings clearly

Strong collaboration skills in a team environment

Ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
